3. "The Politics of Truth" by Joseph Wilson
Been working on it for awhile, because I have been lured by the siren song of DU! Been trying to cut back on DU a bit to get more reading in. Just finished "London Bridges" by James Patterson (fiction), with his character Alex Cross. Love that series!

7. I can't get into James Patterson
tried it but no chance. But I read a novel by his wife Faye Patterson and I liked her mystery.

Did you ever read anything by Ian Rankin?

12. I believe you are thinking of Jonathan Kellerman
His wife's name is Faye, and she is also a novelist. I have all the books by both of them. Jonathan's main character is Alex Delaware; Faye's main character is Peter Decker, along with his Jewish wife Rina Lazarus. I point out her religion because it's a very big part of the stories.

I have heard of Ian Rankin, but not read anything. Any recommendations?

14. Right
mixed them up. But still, James Patterson hasn't captioned me yet. Maybe I give it another try.

All of his John Rebus' books. Maybe start with the earlier ones, his character is developing over the books.

16. That's what I like to do
when there is a series of books following the same character -- follow along from the beginning.

It's funny, but I initially resisted Faye Kellerman for a long time, then one day on impulse, I picked up her first book, where Peter and Rina first meet after the rape at the Mikva. Absolutely fell in love with her and her characters!

24. You definitely should!
They are a nice mix of crime story and personal story. And I love Rina! One of the things I really like about the books is the "education" about aspects of the Jewish faith. I have been fascinated by religion since I took a "Bible as Literature" class in high school, and another class in college studying the major religions of the world. There's no sense of trying to "convert" or anything, just information about the Jewish faith, which I find interesting.

Recently picked this book up to reread it
The Homeric Epics and the Gospel of Mark by Dennis R. MacDonald

It is a book that suggests that the oldest of the Gospels (Mark) may have been an attempt to restate the stories of Homer but with a pacifist hero instead of Homer's aggressive warrior. Interesting theory.

These are a good step into early Christian mysticism and could add to the thesis of Mark and Homer...

I'm slowly making the switch to Ruby on Rails. When I get better at it all of my projects will be Ruby on Rails apps. So now, I'm learning RoR in my spare time with creating some personal apps and doing simple projects with it. Oh, to answer the question. I do this stuff to pay rent and kill some time. So, a little bit of both.

Kyrillic letters? yee-ouch! Before I took my first year of Deutsch I tried to study it from the library, but all the books there were written in old script. My thought was 'if I have to learn that, I am dropping out of this course.'

The rumour:

To paraphrase Glenn Dakin, what was it that was so simple that we understood then, that we don't understand now?

Stephen King seems to know.

25. Hey MissHoneychurch! I'm actually rereading a favorite book of mine...
...which always inspires me. It's called "Resistance of the Heart - Intermarriage and the Rosenstrasse Protest in Nazi Germany"..

Its a true and often overlooked story of intermarriage in Berlin between Germans and Jews. In 1943, the Nazis tried to send all Jews to concentrations camps, specifically aiming on those who were intermarried to Germans. It created wild protests, largely unknown by many people, which resulted in the Nazis releasing the Jews back to their German spouses. What's most interesting about it, is that the majority of the protest were from female Germans. They protested in the streets, and created a real problem for the Nazi leadership, since it wouldn't seem appropriate for them to shoot down their own women. The Nazi's capitulated, and the women won.

In a distant way, it makes me think of what a Cindy Sheehan is doing. And how it is more effective when women lead the front. It really creates a conundrum for the ruling elites.

...W.W. Norton & Company. I'd highly suggest reading it. You'll enjoy it, and it gives us all hope. If these German women could win over Nazi Germany, in the midst of the war in 1943, then hope is not lost now.

"Oh, The Glory Of It All" by Sean Wilsey

I was looking at the info on another book on Amazon and this was one of those that were listed as "Reader who bought this book also bought.." kind of things. It sounded interesting so I checked it out at the library. I'm not getting vey far in it because I only have so much energy left in the evening and we also got 3 of the I think 5 DVD's of "500 Nations" and the hubband has been wanting to watch those. They are only 7 day loan so need to watch those first.
