3. No, I do not.
But I can't stand either one of those Pink Floyd albums, so that probably has something to do with it. Ruins the whole list for me.

5. I'm challenged that The Yes Album was ranked as low as it was
I just that just kicked off the movement. And I think there should have been some Alan Parson's Project on the list. Plus I noticed that Supertramp's Crime of the Century was on there but where was Breakfast in America.

7. Yea King Crimson!
My husband is John Wetton's guitar tech when he goes on tour. He's a good guy (except when he phones our house at 4am because he forgets we're six hours behind the UK).

I'm not too much into prog but my husband and father in law love Yes, Genesis, and Pink Floyd so I'd say it's a good list.

34. Wetton is a hugely underappreciated singer
That whiskey baritone has real magic when he's singing good (non-Asia) lyrics. See "Starless" and "The Night Watch."

11. Mars Volta is #9 in the Art Rock category of Prog Rock
http://www.progarchives.com/top-prog-albums.asp?style_id=3

There are dozens of types of progressive rock out there: Yes is a Symphonic Rock whereas Jethro Tull is more of a Prog Folk Rock.

The list I include was for all genres of Prog Rock and there are some major heavyweights in that category that have been around for decades. Mars Volta competes better amongst its own type in the Art Rock category (lead by several Rush albums)

I would have put "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" by Genesis in the top 10, though.

13. I agree with them all, except for the Rush album
And I am a SUPER Rush fan!

But not Moving Pictures - no way. If they want to put a Rush one in the top 10, do 2112 or Hemispheres.

But as for a new number 10, I'd put in Genesis' Lamb Lies Down on Broadway or Floyd's Animals.

14. I have to agree with you on the Rush comment
Moving Pictures was way too commericialized to be an effective top #10 prog rock album. 2112 or Farewell to Kings would have been better choices!

22. Tool was in the top 100
If you poke around the website first you'll see it's a top 100 list (I only listed the top 10) and that they also have lists broken down into the genre of prog rock.

Tool was #44 in the overall list and #4 is the progressive metal list

26. Roxy Music "prog"?!
Hmm... I never thought of them that way, but I guess everything up to Country Life could be considered "prog". Sort of.

27. I always thought them sort of prog,
especially the first two albums. No songs about elves or overly-technical guitar/keyboard gymnastics, but still some solid musicianship and experimental sonic textures.

I'd take them over Rush any day.

30. Roxy Music fell under "Prog Related"
Groups that were prog-like but not quite. Queen and Peter Gabriel were also considered "Prog-Related"

According to the Website:

Prog Related
Rock and Pop Bands and Artists after 1970 who were not truly “prog” (as that term is generally and broadly defined, even by the site), but who were clearly not “mainstream” or simply “rock” bands.

A wide subgenre that encompasses two kinds of bands/artist, that either consist of progressive artist that strayed away from their progressive roots into mainstream rock or were influenced by progressive rock.

Even though the music by these artists is sometimes unrelated it had things in common with prog music in that it was very structured and even adventurous, sometimes hard or heavy, sometimes mellow, strong melodies, good hooks are an integral part of most of the material. Sometimes these artists pioneered other rock genres.

Though most of these artist can't really be considered progressive themselves, their relation to progressive music is not to be underestimated.

31. actually I think KIng Crimson should have been rated higher
and I say that as someone who was obsessed with Yes in high school. Never thought of Floyd as progressive, per se. Where was ELP? I was really into them.

33. The Rush is misplaced
They were never a prog band. I'd rate "Red" higher than any Tull album, as well as "Larks Tongues in Aspic." Still one of the most intense and out there albums I have ever heard. "Close to the Edge" has to be #1. It was Yes' most perfect album - not one unnecessary or misplaced note. "Selling England" by all means, but where the hell was "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" - it was only the best concept album ever!

If you want to try some really twisted but virtuosic music, check out the Zeuhl section on the OP's link. Magma is Carl Orff ("Carmina Burana") meets Zappa arranged by Sun Ra and staged by Leni Riefenstahl. As a record store owner bud of mine used to say "Dude, that is seriously screwed up music."
