1. Ah, the beauty of love!
Having the heart broken sucks. But the experience before the heartbreak - hoo boy, is that wonderful!

Love - the most trauma-inducing of emotions; the most joyfulhappytoecurling of emotions.

7. Nothing is as whole as a broken heart
I think that's a Jewish saying, but I'm not sure. I learned it from a Jew, anyway.

But I think it's wholly true.

Sorry to hear of your bad love experience. Relationship ending is quite likely the worst feeling we can ever go through.

9. Hey, Gore1FL, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but
my best friend said that about my wife and I for years while he found Ms. Wrong after Ms. Wrong (or Ms. His Own Hand during dry spells). Then on the eve of his wedding to the woman that changed his mind, changed his heart, and changed his world, I got to parrot his "codependency" rants back to him like any good best man would do, peppered with "nah-nah-nah-nah's." I'm don't know what events/people/experiences in your life led to your cynical view of love, but I hope someone comes along and rocks your world (in a good way) someday.

43. It isn't funny, it's ridiculous
because not many people will ever experience anything like that. I know I'm sure as hell beginning to believe I won't. And if one more smug married or attached person pats me on the head and says to just be patient, it'll happen when you least expect it, the sun shines on those who lift their face up to receive it, etc., etc., etc., I'm gonna throw something and then I'm gonna puke.

16. Love Stinks

You love her
But she loves him
And he loves somebody else
You just can't win
And so it goes
Till the day you die
This thing they call love
It's gonna make you cry
I've had the blues
The reds and the pinks
One thing for sure

(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah
(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah
(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah
(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah

Two by two and side by side
Love's gonna find you yes it is
You just can't hide
You'll hear it call
Your heart will fall
Then love will fly
It's gonna soar
I don't care for any casanova thing
All I can say is
Love stinks

(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah
(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah
(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah
(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah

I've been through diamonds
I've been through minks
I've been through it all
Love stinks

(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah
(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah
(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah
(Love stinks)
Love stinks yeah yeah

that love is like taking the most delicate glass version of your heart and handing it to a stranger knowing that at some point they are bound to smash it into a million pieces. All love breaks our heart eventually. The trick is remembering that you got to smile first.

On a lighter note, here's some voter love to make you smile

All of them impossible to describe in words. The way I love my wife is very different from the way I love my kids, or my cats, or my Mom, or even my sister. Beer and Scotch, that's a little easier to describe. :toast:

24. just sent this to my ex
Poem: "Advice to a Girl," by Sara Teasdale from Mirror of the Heart (Macmillan).

Advice to a Girl

No one worth possessing
Can be quite possessed;
Lay that on your heart,
My young angry dear;
This truth, this hard and precious stone,
Lay it on your hot cheek,
Let it hide your tear.
Hold it like a crystal
When you are alone
And gaze in the depths of the icy stone.
Long, look long and you will be blessed:
No one worth possessing
Can be quite possessed

35. It isn't the love that sucks...
It's the attachment to the desires that love spawns.

Like when love makes you want to have sex with someone, and they say, "Can't we just be friends?"

Or when love makes us want to be friends with someone, and they say, "Can't we just have sex?"

Or when love makes us want our child to be successful and happy, and she drops out of high school to run off with a drug smuggler.

or or or...

around you get it and you've waited for twenty years or so and you feel like shit or that there's something wrong with you because you don't have it and you're terrified you never will and are tired of seeing it happen to everyone else but you.

When that happens, you might think about the people who've "had it" 7 or 8 times during those 20 you've waited. Sometimes people are married for 20 years and still feel lonely as hell.

What are you looking for, LiberalHistorian? Do you want to love, or be loved, or both? Is the frustration due to never having loved someone, or is it due to never having your feelings of love reciprocated in the same way? Has anyone ever loved you that you didn't want to have a relationship with? How did that make you feel?

Sorry for all the questions...

38. Love sucks
It lifts you up only to drop you on the rocks beneath. It teases you with ghostly images of what might be. It will pull you inside out, knock you over, and drag you a hundred feet. It'll dance around the edge of your vision, then hit you like a ton of bricks.

And every last one of us desperately wants it.

48. Celibate For Peace
So, with a mind shift you can declare yourself celibate instead of "not getting any". Then you can join me in building a group called "Celibate For Peace: We're Not Fucking Around. Bring The Troops Home." We can log days celibate vs. days at war and see if we can tip the balance. We can wear funny t-shirts. We can turn chastity against the war machine. Much more fun than moping. I mean, don't you think our misery should count for something? Great thing is if you are not celibate one day, you can always be part of the movement again tomorrow!

Peace,
Teresa

54. Either way........
Love is what you make it. It can be beautiful or it can be pain. Usually its a little of both but in order to last it takes alot or work. Which makes it tiresome, time consuming, frustrating and bitter sweet. LOL Sometimes I feel like its not worth any of it but........., the other day I was working, ( working as a waitress while I'm going to school), and these two old people came in and sat down in my section. I wasn't in the best mood so I was kind of short with the man when he ordered for himself and for his wife. ( I hate men like that) ANyway, It turns out that they were celebrating their 59th wedding anniversery and I looked over at the women and she was just sitting there glowing. She had the biggest, sweetest smile painted on and they were both so proud to share that with me. That day I felt like love was worth it.
