I went up to Evanston...to see a movie!
I decided to go see "Capote" today. BUT...just to shake things up...to upset the toutine...I decided to see it in...EVANSTON. Yes, that city to the north. SO...instead of taking the Red Line CTA train SOUTH...as I normally would...I took it...NORTH. And then...at Howard...I transferred to the Purple Line Evanston train...and went into...another city!! To see a movie!!

Wild times, wild times. Gosh, I'm getting too old for this kind of edgy excitement!

(Sometimes I write posts just for my own amusement. Apparently, this was one of them.)

1. Was it scary in Evanston?
All those lawns, big houses, and German sedans..... Creeps me out just thinking about it.

6. Yes, it was....it was dangerously...Republican....
Believe me, after the movie, I hightailed it back to good ol' extremely Democratic Chicago as fast as I could. :scared:

14. Evanston is more Democratic than you think....
I know the house where Jan Schakowsky lives...it is a biggie with an impressive lawn.

9. I liked "Capote" very much.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman did more than just an impression of Capote...he did a tremendous job portraying Capote. It was a very nuanced performance.

All the performances were good. I liked the idea of putting Capote's life in the context of "In Cold Blood" (well, it was the defining moment in Capote's life). I don't know if there was an emotional aspect between Capote and Pwrry Smith, but it seems plausible today.

The screen play by actor Dan Futterman was excellent.

I highly recommend "Capote"

4. Ah, Evanston!
My dear terrya! I grew up there, many years ago......

My dad was a graduate student at NOrthwestern Univ....We lived in the married student housing on Central St...right next door to Dike Stadium.....

I remember it well.....Those little prefab houses were torn down in the early 50's and now it's a parking lot...or it was when I visited there in 1991!

You rekindled some very sweet memories for me tonight.....

Thanks!

:loveya:

11. You did?? I didn't know that, Peggy. Interesting!
Well, I'm glad I triggered some nice memories for you. I probably couldn't live there...the standard of living is a bit...um..."beyond my means", shall we say??

I'm glad I could bring back some good memories for you...from my very silly post. :-)

5. maybe next time you should catch the metra
less of a shock to the system. that nice, clean, old fashioned train might cushion the blow a little.

7. I am going to a movie in Evanston on Monday!!!!
But I will drive there....

And I am going to see "Good Night and Good Luck". Probably in the same theater complex.

Must be home early to deal with the hordes or trick or treaters. We get literally hundreds.

I love Evanston, was born there and went to NU there. And I visit the farmers market there that is across the street and a bit to the north of where you were today.

19. And how was the theater? Was the crowd better and more refined
since it was Evanston?

If I had to live in Chicago, Evanston would be the only place I'd be willing to go to.
