I need your input for the Neil Lisst comic strip this week.
Some of you have read my political comic. This week we did Plame Game, mixing elements of James Bond films and Star Wars to describe the events of June 2003. Click the link in my sig if you want to see some of the Plame Game week we just finished.

Since Scooter Libby got indicted, we want to follow up on that this week. I expect Monday's to be serious, but to set the stage for the balance of the week.

As you know, I like to mix some humor in, and not every day is a civics' lesson. I'm thinking of lightening things up a couple of days next week, but to do so, I need to know one thing.

DO YOU KNOW WHO LIBBY'S FOODS IS, AND WOULD YOU RECOGNIZE A CAN OF THEIR PEAS?

ok, maybe that's two things ...

Thanks.

1. Maybe a take-off on on of the old......
Libby's commercials. The tag line if my whiskey bent and hell bound mind is working correctly was "It's Libby's, Libby's Libby's".

4. yeah, that's what I'm thinking.

I'm going to try to make some comments about the Libby situation while making some gags that involve Libby's food.

I don't think the story is going develop any the early part of the week, which is one reason I want to segue to something that capitalizes on the current interest in Libby, without simply beating to death the facts already discussed ad nauseam.

2. When it say Libby's Libby's Libby's
on the label label label,
You will like it like it like it
on the table table,
When it say Libby's Libby's Libby's
on the label label label.

Maybe I would recognise their product. I hated tinned veg growing up-hey and even as an adult.

3. I'm, planning on using the jingle, so I am glad to see some
recognize it

Do they still use the jingle?

I wish I'd paid more attention to peas commercials now.

11. I don't think so-
I haven't seen a Libby's product in years. But I'm sure there are enough of old bats like me remember the good old days.

7. Well, then, that's the kind of name recognition I'm looking for.
Let me lay the predicate.

I do not believe there will be any new information this week about the Libby et al. affairs, but the interest in it will remain high. To me, that is a moment for comic relief.

No one needs me to tell them how sucky things are right now. The war is painful to think about. The waiting on Fitz to drop the other shoe is agonizing. These are not happy times.

That's why I like to see Cheney as Darth Vader or Wilson and Plame as James Bond.

This week I'm thinking of a trip towards serendipity, some mindless joking about the impact we might expect upon a company named LIBBY'S after the first White House official to be indicted in 130 years is named LIBBY.

But the whole thing fails if there is insufficient name ID for LIBBY'S FOOD.

Thanks.

As long as you're going to do a takeoff on the Libby name .....

..... why not call him "Vespa"?

8. ah, the Scooter angle!
believe it or not, it's too subtle

I like subtle, but subtle in a comic tends to lose too many readers, IMO. Like my aunts. Even if I told them it's a Scooter, they'd say "oh."

10. yeah, I've thought about the parody of the jingle, but ...
... but I'm saving that for further down the road.

All the comics we're doing this week find humor in the situation, but we are careful to avoid besmirching Libby Foods. I just don't feel good about bastardizing their jingle.

Until it's just too funny not to

OR

they send me a nasty letter telling me to quit using their company name, which is an automatic FU from Neil Lisst comic.

13. We have a can of Libby's pumpkin now to make pie with
I think the Libby's is commercial only now, Nestle's or a division. But the pumpkin pie in a can is wonderful
