I could have sworn I saw Janeane Garofalo tonight. |
|
I was at a nearby Starbucks tonight (Los Angeles) working on scripts. After about an hour, I saw a small blonde woman with glasses walk up to the counter.
I was about 20 feet away, so I wasn't close enough to hear her voice, which would have been a dead giveaway. I was sitting by the entrance, so I was about three feet away when she left. It definitely looked like her, and I know she's working on The West Wing right now, which shoots at the Warner Bros. studio just down the road. On the show, she has black hair, but that could just be a wig.
I know she's a short woman, but I was sitting down the whole time, so I couldn't gauge her actual height. If I was standing up, she would have come up to my neck. Of course, like a dumbass, I didn't stand up or try to talk to her, but that would have been interesting if that was actually her.
Anyway, that's my story for tonight.

Being around public people is funny. You wanna hook up, be respectful o their privacy, too many competing thoughts.
I've settled on smiling and nodding and not showing teeth.
lol
/f is not a go

2. Janeane seems cool, though. |
|
I don't think she'd mind if I said something (assuming that was her). Of course, I'm the least extroverted person in the world, so I didn't try anything. :banghead:

3. It's a strange thing, isn't it? |
|
I saw this guy jogging and did a mental take. Met him some time later at one of our comedy gigs.
It's about balance, my friend. Being cheered on is always welcomed. Being asked for one more thing is often one more thing too much.
Wacky.

5. Sorry. I work with "celebs" every day. |
|
They all really appreciate positive feedback. AND, they all have people who come up to them and ask them to dance. "Remember that bit you did in Reno last summer? Do it for me right now!"
So, it really is a balancing act, interacting with them. Is that better?

I was kind of thinking that's what you meant. Of course, I just would have said hi and/or "Keep up the good work."

7. The best way to go is just to ignore the celeb stuff. |
|
Once I asked the "here comes the sun" guy to pipe down so I could listen to Doug's set. (We were backstage at Comedy Day and I was watching on a monitor) And he smiled and did.
All that stuff is just part of work for us. So, if you ignore it and just talk to a person, that's a major step.
But, it is tricky. As someone sort of in the seams between celebrity and privacy, it seems to me to be a strange - O situation.

8. Doug Stanhope? Or another comedian named Doug? |
|
Personally, I'm not too impressed by celebrity. If I saw Tom Cruise somewhere, I wouldn't try to approach him. But if I saw some character actor whose work I really like, that might be different.

9. Ferrari. But Doug Stanhope rocks. |
|
No, my Doug is the myth -- and it really is myth. But, next time I see Mork jogging, I'll just mentally wish him well.
That whole celeb thing is wierd. Frankly, I'd rather be in Cleveland - except The Magistrate once said that was the wrong town. :)
Have a good one,b.

10. What's wrong with Cleveland? |
|
I have some very good friends there.....
I haven't visited them yet, but someday I hope to.....
So what's wrong with it? Or did The Magistrate say?
Thanks!

I can no longer remember the correct city.
Maybe His Honor will pop in and and enlighten me once again.
Cleveland is fine. It's me that's the problem. :hi:
