Anybody here interpret dreams?
My friend called me this morning saying she had dreamed about this white bird flying over her house. At one point it came closer and she had thought it was a dove but then it seemed more like a parakeet. And it came into her house. I looked up dream symbols and all I could find was something about purity. The reason she was asking was because of the old superstition about a bird flying into your house means a death is coming.

1. i was going to post under a similar topic
but concerning a different dream, of course. i was consumed by a soft, inviting golden light and what did I hear but the voice of Gawd. he spake unto me, "you will die in january of next year" . . . next thing i knew i found myself in the barracks, where these two recruitment officers kicked me out of bunk . . . "get a haircut and go fight," one of them barked. i was crawling out of their reach, towards the exit, but when i looked back, they were in my bed, in uniform, with two nondescript women. then i complained: "hey, you just wanted to have seeexxxxx!"

what DOES this MEAN

2. A few thoughts
I've heard that a house in dream land is symbolic of a mental state. You may want to ask her a few details about the house. Was it her own? Was it changed in any way? If this holds true then the bird flying into the house could be symbolic of some change that is going on in her life. You know, something that is upsetting her established order. Could be good or bad. When I think of birds I think of the ability to fly and that seems symbolic of freedom. Has your friend undergone a change recently that has been liberating for her?

Just a few thoughts. I know very little about dream symbology so take it for what it's worth.

3. Just a suggestion...
but you might want to post this in The Meeting Room, too. You might get more responses...good luck, either way.

4. a dream bird flying in your house does NOT mean death
The old superstition was that a wild bird (not a pet or domesticated bird) flying into your house may bring death. Also I've heard bringing a wild bird's nest into your house may bring death. It is simply not true. I accidentally brought a nest into my house, with a Christmas tree, over 25 years ago, and I did not die. I've several times had wild birds flying in my house -- still didn't die. So the superstition is a crock to begin with.

As far as the dream...the white dove is a symbol of peace and a nice thing to have flying over one's house. When it turns into a parakeet -- I'm assuming by "parakeet" you mean a domesticated budgerigar -- it is turning into a domesticated, friendly, talkative pet. I would put this as a wish-fulfillment type symbolism; your friend dreams of peace coming and instead of just being a "fly over" for the holidays, it is coming to live within her home.

A dream that was meant to express a hope rather than a fear...

but not to my mind a prophetic dream.

The dream symbol books are a load of **** in my view.

If the "parakeet" was another species of the many referred to as "parakeets," get back to me and I'll take another stab at it.

i used to do dream interpretation all the time, i've gotten lazy, but hope it helps a bit
