1. That was a great show.
I wasn't a fan of the "jasmine" storyline, but the last season was (minus Spike) was very well done.

2. I think that I am the only one who liked the last episodes - not fade away
I would rather see angel fighting for survival against impossible odds, than getting dusted. I also cried twice once when wes got killed and the other the whole loren back story. Powerful stuff.

It was a great ending.
Goddess Fred (can't remember the name) was very touching. I cried when Wesley died. I sniffled, because I knew Gun was going to die. And I gasped when Lorne did what he did.

The dragon was a nice touch of humor at the end.

** I demand a movie ** if firefly gets a movie, so should Angel.

12. The ending was too rushed.
Edited on Sun Oct-30-05 01:59 PM by Fox Mulder
I didn't like it, but given the circumstances Joss was in, I can understand why it was rushed.

I just wish they had more time to develop it, though.

3. It was treated like shit over here
The first season went out at 6pm & were heavily edited to remove the violence & even dropped an episode or two. Season 2 was uncut, but went out ridiculously late (about 1am IIRC). Then it dissapeared for while before a new channel acquired the rights. They initially gave it a decent slot (8pm) before bumping it later & later and I gave up (I was at Uni at the time & without video recorder). I don't even think the final season was aired.

As a result of all this - despite being a massive Buffy fan - I've missed much of Angel & never really got into it. (To be fair, Angel & Cordellia were probably my least liked characters anyway and nobody in Angel matched Spike, Xander, Anya, Willow, etc IMO) However, I recently picked up the first 2 seasons at a bargain basement price & plan on re-indulging myself when I get the opportunity. (& finally getting to watch it in continuity with the concurrent Buffy episodes.)

The greatest scene in Angel IMO, is the opening to season 1, episode 3 ("In The Dark"):

Spike, spying on Angel helping a girl, concocts the following dialogue:

"How can I thank you, you mysterious black-clad-hunk-of-a-knight-thing?"
"No need little lady. Your tears of gratitude are enough for me. You see, I was once a bad-ass vampire. But love, and a pesky curse, defanged me. And now, I'm just a *big* fluffy puppy with bad teeth. No! Not the hair! Never the hair."
"But there must be some way I can show my appreciation."
"No, helping those in need's my job. And working up a load of sexual tension and prancing away like a magnificent poof is truly thanks enough."
"I understand. I have a nephew who's gay, so..."
"Say no more. Evil's still afoot. And I'm almost out of that Nancy-boy hair gel I like so much. Quickly! To the Angel-mobile! Away!"

7. Cordy was a lot better than Buffy, IMO.
Buffy was too whiny and needy. Cordy...wasn't.

The cat costume always does it for me, especially when Cordelia is wearing it.

:wow:

21. Channel 4 are notorious for that
Start off with a series at a time when people are just getting home from work then edit the crap out of it to the extent that it often finished about 5 minutes short.

They did decide to show late night repeats of the show uncut, except they could never decide on a time slot so it moved between 11pm and 2am pretty much at random. Since no one could ever guarantee when it was going to be on, very few people watched it. Channel 4 saw these low audience figures and decided that the show couldn't be shown at sane times and kept jumping it around the schedules.

It's not the first time they did that with a series either, most of the last two series of Babylon 5 were shown at silly-o'clock in the morning because no one could ever figure out when it was on and thus never watched.

Channel 4's treatment of series like Angel and Babylon 5 are really good adverts for investing in satellite or cable tv.

9. Puppet Angel was hilarious.
I do love the show, especially Wesley and Lorne. I even grew to like Fred and Gun, after they broke up. Hell, I even liked Connor. I just didn't like the Jasmine character or what they did to Cordelia. I had enough of Spike on Buffy, but he was alright when they started to have Fred kick his ass.

I actually liked Angel more than Buffy in many respects. I felt like the characters were deeper and the storylines less "monster of the week." Buffy was also good. However, that's due to an amazing supporting cast. Sarah Michelle Gellar was crap, in my opinion.

10. I agree i also liked faith more on Angel than Buffy.
The Angel verse seemed easier to relate to than Buffy's world. I mean its probably the age factor and setting.

11. I agree.
Sarah Michelle Gellar was crap. I couldn't stand her on Buffy. She lacked personality. She was too needy and whiny. Hell, I just can't stand her because she's an ultra right winger. That's why I never really got into Buffy. I caught the episodes if I was free, but I didn't make time for them like some hardcore fans did.

Angel was definitely the better of the two shows, IMO.

13. Buffy just wasn't sympathetic.
I never felt sorry for her, even when her mother died. She just seemed like a spoiled brat, which I blame on Gellar's limited range as an actor. The rest of the cast grew with their roles.

15. Acting.
She doesn't sing on camera that much. Perhaps her singing ability is more odious, but the effect is much less annoying.

I felt like Gellar's character actually got more shallow over the years, while the other actors grew into their characters. It was like she thought she was too good for the show or she just stopped trying.

16. It was too bad about Doyle.
Good actor and good character; it's just too bad Glenn Quinn couldn't get his act together.

24. I know.
I wish they didn't get rid of Doyle so soon in the series. But I guess plans about him dying on the show early were all ready established by the time the show started filming.

RIP Glenn Quinn.

18. Fred
Now that girl was the shit. I was angry with what they did to her, especially after they went out of their way to make her even more endearing right before she got taken over. I came around to thinking they had made her a sympathetic character once again as the low-power goddess. The writers were not good to the women on Angel. One real loose end (unless I missed something) was the "electra-girl" that restarted Angel's heart? I guess they were planning to develop that storyline some way when they decided on a fast wrap.

To me the Buffy finale was more satisfying. My favorite Angel arc was when they went to Lorne's dimension where they found Fred. I missed the first two seasons. Where I live it came on 2:35am on Thursday. Ridiculous. We had to tape them and watch later.

Cheers to the fans! :toast:

22. Funny you should start a thread on this because
I'm rewatching all my Angel DVDs in a row right now. I just watched Season Three's Carpe Noctem when the old guy took over Angel's body and he was hitting on all the ladies. That was a great episode!
