Driver swerves to miss cat and hits 36 kids, one adult in Shizuoka

SHIZUOKA — The driver of a passenger car dodged a cat and the vehicle crashed into a line of nursery school children in the city of Shizuoka on Thursday afternoon, injuring 36 children and an adult looking after them, police said.

Five of them were injured seriously in the accident which occurred on a road with one lane on each side at around 1:10 p.m., firefighters said. The children are aged 4 or 5, and the adult is 23. The police arrested the driver, Akira Yano, 59, on suspicion of inflicting injuries caused by negligence.

3. I admit my natural reaction is to not hit an animal

and I have swerved to avoid them, but I had to hit a cat once instead of causing a worse accident. I felt bad about the cat, but I had to do it in an effort to protect other lives and property. :cry:

6. hubby told me a story from his childhood, his dad is from arkansas...

not that that matters; but when he was a kid his dad was driving down the road and almost hit a dog without even moving the steering wheel one way or the other. hubby looked back out the rear window and mentioned,

"wow, you almost hit that dog, dad!"

his dad sat for a minute not saying anything then finally asnwered...

"if you think i'm going to wreck a $5,000 car for a $5 dog you're crazy."

i suppose there are levels to these things but this is a sad story :cry:
