The bit about the farmers - they had nothing to do with it and in fact, didn't much like it. Think about it - what's a farmer care what time it is? They get up and milk the cows very early, then work until dark. Period.
I just read a very interesting book about Daylight Saving Time (one thing I learned is that there is no "s" on the end of the word "saving") - it was actually city people who pushed for it in an attempt to have more afternoon and evening daylight in which to enjoy leisure activities. The rise of evening baseball games and golf as a popular pasttime date from the inception of DST.
So everyone quit blaming the poor farmers! :hi:
