Okay, so I watched Love Actually and actually loved it...
It was sentimental and predictable and tied up neatly in the end and I felt manipulated but, I still loved it...

2. I like the storyline with the writer and the Portuguese woman
especially when his novel is lost in the lake. Some of the other characters I couldn't stand, though.

3. That arc and the LIam Neeson/stepson arc are my favorites
I've seen this movie (literally) about 30 times... I still cry, especially when:

1.) Colin Firth proposes, and
2.) When the Beach Boys' "God only Knows" plays at the end....

7. I cry everytime the choir starts singing Love, Love, Love at the beginning
It is one of the most beautiful wedding scenes ever. And my favorite story line is the one with Hugh Grant as the Prime Minister. When he goes door to door and sings carols with his copper, I laugh and fall for that character everytime. I love the Colin Firth scenes, too.

8. I hate the lady who plays Alan Rickman's Assistant.
As soon as she opens her legs at him, I want to smack that little tramp.

19. I know you're supposed to feel sorry for her because she's really lonely
but she's obnoxious... "don't get me something I need, get me something I want." Blech.

5. Emma Thompson was heartbreaking
she had one little scene by herself, alone in her bedroom, when she has to brace herself after finally facing her husband's infidelity. The pain of being the betrayed spouse is all there in one little moment.
And Bill Nighy made me laugh.

6. I could NOT agree more!
I loved it in the theaters.....

So much that I bought the DVD....and have watched it several more times...

It ALWAYS reduces me to tears at the end, and at several points in the middle...

Wonderful movie......

13. The Laura Linley character was so sad....
I was crushed, but glad that she felt duty was more important...

It was all about the choices we all make....

30. Ahh, there is a deleted scene which is a REAL must see, that clinches her
entire life in the vortex of her brother's insanity...

She's visiting him, and he says "How are you doing..?" She says, "well, you know, I'm okay, things are going well..."

And he pauses for a moment and looks away and says

"...I'm in hell..." and her face just crumbles.

The deleted scenes are PRICELESS, especially with the Emma Thompson character's little son, too, too funny.

9. I hated the way the Emma Thompson thing resolved.

SPOILER, kind of...

I actually have blocked it out in my memory, LOL...was it even Emma? The married couple...the husband who bought the nice present for his secretary and gave his wife a CD.

Whatever the deal, it was like the affair was never mentioned or mentioned and just kind of bleh? I remember being all warm and fuzzy about the ending, and then the married guy was either coming/going at the airport, and it was just like...I don't know, they weren't happy. I didn't get the feeling that they had a renewed love or anything.

:(

10. I noticed that Emma's character
was dressed differently and wearing make up at the end. Those outfits she wore in the rest of the movie were awful. I figured she forgave him and they were trying to put things back together---but as always, sometimes it's easier to forgive than forget. That's the impression I was left with at the end.

14. If she hadn't seen the necklace, she would have melted...
when she got the cd. He never did anything with the secretary. He just thought about it. He got her the necklace, but I think he would have beat himself up too much if he had slept with her. They were fixing everything at the end. At least thats what I got from it, and I've watched it a dozen or more times.

15. My wife and I watched it
On a whim, and holy crap did we both like the movie.

Other people I've met said it was too long, but I don't think so. It's in our top ten of "we can watch it over and over no matter how many times we've seen it."

Of course, so is "50 First Dates", so take that recommendation with a grain of salt.

18. I love it, too...even if it is schmaltzy, it's true in that
love is actually all around...and it IS the meaning of life. Nothing else really matters in the end. At least that's what I get from the movie, along with a lot of laughs.

25. It makes life worth living....
All you truly need is love to make your life wonderful...

And it can be the love of a friend, or a brother or a woman who reaches inside and touches your very soul.....

But a life without love is a life without a center....

26. All very true.
As the Beatles would say: All you need is love...da da da da da...
Another quote that has gotten me through some tough times:

Nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal exists. And the only real thing is love.

I take that to mean that love is the purest, most essential essence, and is the only thing that lasts.

were.

Their relationship was sweet and bizarre at the same time.

27. Yup, I really liked the movie, too, though I could have done
without two of the character arcs for a little more time with everyone else: I didn't really care about the love triangle with Keira Knightly/Chiwetel Ejiofor (he was great in "Dirty Pretty Things)/other guy who loved her but couldn't have her; and while the guy who went to Wisconsin and came back with two girls was funny at times, I'd have nixed him for more of the Emma Thompson/Alan Rickman/Colin Firth/Bill Nighy storylines.

Emma Thompson in the bedroom after she opens the CD is just marvelous, Bill Nighy was a crack up, and I love Alan Rickman and Colin Firth in just about anything (though don't EVER rent "Hope Springs" with Heather Graham, Colin Firth and Minnie Driver - it is horrible).

28. Hope Springs is a horrible movie.....
They had to have the triangle thing or else they wouldn't have been able to introduce Love Love Love...... All you need is love...

The Milwaukee thing was just too strange for the rest of the show... It was pretty believable, except for that....

29. I liked Hugh Grant and the catering manager
We've seen "Love Actually" probably 30 times. I LOVE the movie. I'm also very sad that the "Billy Mack video" was not on the extras; just seeing the little clips of it throughout the movie makes me laugh.

It's a holiday tradition for us now, too.
