quick daylight savings question...

I am in Indiana - and for the past twenty some years we haven't observed daylight savings time. We will start doing so in the Spring (with all sorts of odd problems - such as different counties going to different time zones (eastern or central).

I have lived without daylight savings time (grew up and went to college in Indiana), and have lived with it in other states.

But when you live in an area that does not observe - there is little hooply about the time change - until after the fact. So we often have no clue when the change comes.

I am about to set the vcr - but suddenly realized that I don't know if the time changed this weekend - and that always shifts our cable viewing.

So a quick answer to the question "when does the time change happen" is needed by one who is oblivious.

when I wake up tomorrow, we will suddenly be back on eastern time.

While most of the time, I sorta like living in a place that bucks the system on this point - twice a year it is a real pain to figure out. :hi:

4. It's funny on directv...You see a program starting at 1:30 and then

immediately after it, one starting at 1:00. :hi: I like living on the very edge of the Eastern time zone. It makes the sunset at about 9:45 in the summer, which gives you lots of time to do things. :hi:

6. I sorta like our quirky Indiana way of ignoring dlt

but it was much easier to keep track of (in the sense of communicating with family here in Indiana) when I lived in places, like Michigan, that observed it. Odd thing is that due north it is Eastern time (Michigan) but due south (Ky, then TN and AL) it is central time. Funny to be in a state that has a time-identity probelm.

8. It gets too late on the edge of the Pacific time zone...

Many places on this end of the country don't start 4th of July fireworks until 11-11:30! I'm on Mountain time, but very close to Pacific.

I like the Central time zone best, but I wouldn't mind living in the Eastern time zone.

10. Ours don't start till then being on the Western edge of the Eastern time

zone. It's usually between 10:45 and 11:15 that they start, because it doesn't get truly dark until then. :hi: I hate the dark so it's great in the summer time.

11. I adapt pretty well, I think...

I like the late sunshine (to a point) while we're having it, but I also like the early nights while we're having them. Then it's time to put a fire in the fireplace and make soup.

SPRING FORWARD.......set the clocks ahead an hour.....

FALL BACK.....set the clocks back an hour......

7. I knew that when I lived in California

enough reminders that the time was changing. I was responsible for letting the family back in Indiana (where I now, again, live) for letting them know when the time changed and what it meant in terms of our long-distance calls.

Hard to explain how oblivious one is to time changes (even though it does affect one, in terms of communicating with folks across the country) when you don't chan ge time.

Next spring the folks in this state will all have to finally learn that phrase (spring forward, fall back.)

Hard to explain how odd our situation is.

of course he has done it in such a sloppy way (counties choose which timezone - pending approval by the feds) that it just got a bit wierder here...

12. Saturday late night, 2am.

That's when the TV channels and networks make the change and when you're supposed to set your clocks back. Most people just do it when they go to bed on Saturday night or when they get up on Sunday. I used to be responsible for the TV schedules and Indiana was always difficult for us. The whole time change is a huge pain. My condolences...:-(
