10. I was just discussing the sad state of corporate controlled music today
With a co-worker

What set me off is the devolution of mainstream hip-hop in the US for the last ten years.

Something happened in 94-95 that killed the raw, underground quality of the sound... I still don't know what it was.

Pop music in general is suffering from the same lack emotion and musical quality

The state of mainline hip-hop is this country is sad. The only place where it's still alive is in the underground. In the street, in places like Detroit and London.

I want to really write about that and let the people know where I'm coming from

11. music across the board is like that,. I think
It's "product" now, not music anymore. It's the same in Rock, Country, Hip-Hop; it's being controlled by Corporations who are shoveling out processed music to consumers who are told that it's the "next hot thing", and devour it w/o question. It's bloodless, emotionless music w/o a soul.

You have to go underground to get any heart/soul, I think; that's why the PC/Internet revolution is so important to music and artists who can DIY for next to nothing and promote it far and wide w/o having to go to a label.

In 10 years big labels will be a thing of the past, and I can't wait for that to happen..

19. Anyways, I've been checking out college radio and foreign streams
It's still out there

But in Clear Channel, MTV, VH1, BET America , the Underground is nowhere to be found.

20. you're right
That's why Internet Radio is the place to be; it's free-form as you want it to be, and w/o the chains of advertising and suits telling you what to play.

Onr person can have a station and play what they want to play; that's how it should be..

Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 03:05 AM by MrScorpio
Up to that point, after I got back to The States, I was in a musical doldrums

Except for the two local college radio stations and NPR, I don't listen to my radio anymore.

I'm a much happier man

22. I listen to AM exclusively up here
for CBC Radio One and CKUA; you'd love this station:

http://www.ckua.org/

And because I love to DX at night and try to get far-away stations. But FM? No way; it's a wasteland...

23. I've got fond memories of CKLW back in Detroit
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 03:10 AM by MrScorpio
I know that there's a lot of great Canadian music.

Right now, I'm exploring the underground Detroit sound.

It's the bomb. I'm finding out that a LOT of Detroiters are treated like gods in the UK. I found some remix combos of Detroiters and Brits kicking it up. PLUS, the old school masters like DJ Primeir and DJ Jazzy Jeff are still gettin top exposure over there.

Over here? No know has heard of them.

A fucking shame.
