This is really bad! Started out with some soft neutrals (coffee with cream, followed by caramel followed by cream with coffee) and it looks like freakin' particle board *lol*
Crap.

1. Toss some blues or greens in there, even some reds to
change the tone.

2. why are you sponging those colors
Shouldn't you use a brush for soft colors and then use a sponge for the brighter stuff that would go on top of it?

3. That's a thought...I am adding some green now and it looks better....
the cheapskates that owned the house before put up textured wallboard, but all different textures - some fake brick, some fake stone, some fake woodgrain, etc. and I was trying to mask the various textures. Yikes!
But the green is looking better...some...

4. May look bad, but it sounds yummy! How about some Kahlua and cream,
Amaretto for a little deeper tone?

I feel for you. Painting mistakes are costly and time consuming to redo.

5. I like using similar neutral colors
Sometimes I've used 4 or 5 shades over each other to get a good effect.

But that's not a question.

Is your arm tired?

:)

6. We've had great luck with sponging
in this old place. I love the look, most people think its wallpaper.

9. I have had good success in the past in an old house with rough
plaster walls, and it worked great; hides a multitude of sins...
But on this multi-textured wallboard it took on a whole different look...

7. oh too bad...i love sponge painting...
I am a color oriented person. I did the bathroom with forest green and celery green over a warm golden cream -- looks wonderful with brass fittings. I'm not too big on neutrals, they remind of the 1980s when neutrals were big.

can't you sponge or spatter some orange in there?

10. Usually not too big on neutrals either, I love COLOR! So I put some green
on there, it's better...
We plan to replace all of the mismatched board at some point but can't manage it just now, so I was trying to improve what we have for as long as we will have to live with it.
Ah well! It's just paint, and all of it stuff I had on hand!
