11. "Me Talk Pretty One Day"
Can't remember the title of the essay, but it's about his first French class.

"Good sir dishrag."

12. You remember the "Rooster" from "Me Talk Pretty?"
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 01:16 PM by WeRQ4U
Well, that actually IS David Sedaris' brother and he has made a website selling T-shirts and BBQ sauce, all emblazoned with "You Can't Kill the Rooster".

http://www.youcantkilltherooster.com/home.html

There's a link to his Hardwood Floor company too. LOL.

15. oh HELL YES!!!
The Rooster is one of my favorites! IIRC David's sister Amy did the Rooster's voice in the audiobooks of his stuff.

Today would be a good day for a "fuckit bucket", IMHO.

3. Love him.....I'm reading "Corduroy" right now.
I went to see the Santa Land Diaries theater adaptation last year in Portland, Oregon. It was pretty good. Although it would have been better to just hear Sedaris' voice reading the book.

He's so darn funny.

"You can't kill the Mother Fuckin' Rooster!!!!"

He often reads on This American Life. You can use the search engine there and find segments he's done and stream them.

Edit to add-not NPR-PRI Public Radio International.

9. Barnes and Nobel may even have some of his tapes too.
I listened to him narrate some of his short stories a few years back. The stories are even better when he's reading them. His voice is really suited to them.

Check them out.

and every single time I laughed so hard I thought I would choke.

8. I met him at a reading.
The reading was at a tiny gay bookstore in Uptown Minneapolis called "A Brother's Touch." After his reading, he thoughtfully autographed his book for everyone there. My friend presented him with a portable wet bar (one of those leather Dean Marin type), and I mentioned that you know that you have made it as a writer when you read your work in front of a huge wall of porn. He didn't realize that porn was his backdrop. Teehee. He was a vary nice person. He signed my Naked book and wrote "Stay Super Sweet" like a yearbook.

13. I LOVE David Sedaris!
He narrates all his CD's and truly makes his essays come to life. And, here you're all going to be jealous. I have heard him read in person, have met him, spoken with him at some length, and he autographed my book.

22. me too!
He was so adorable I wanted to bite him. Though I refrained from doing so. ;) When I met him, the first thing he said to me was "I know you!" which threw me for a loop. I suspect, since I'm Greek, that I look like one of his relatives or something.

20. Like him? I ADORE him. I met him once and he thought he knew me
which made my day. I had him sign "Corduroy" for my husband and he wrote the most adorable thing about how it was such a pleasure to meet his charming wife (aka me!).

If you ever get a chance to see him live, do not miss it. As funny as his stories are in print, they are 1000 times funnier when he reads them live.

I always get his books on CD. Nothing beats hearing him read his own stories. Just reading them doesn't do them justice at all!
