Chet Helms Tribal Stomp, GG Park 10/30/05
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 01:51 PM by musette_sf
Check out this group of video clips from yesterday's celebration of the life of SF concert promoter and all-around good guy, Chet Helms, held at Golden Gate Park.

Courtesy of the SF Chronicle, uncensored Fish Cheer and all :smoke:

http://tinyurl.com/be5ns

Partial list of performers at the show include:
Country Joe
Paul Kantner
Blue Cheer
James Gurley (from Big Brother)
The Charlatans
Rowan Brothers Band
Dan Hicks & the Hot Licks
Ramblin' Jack Elliot
Quicksilver Messenger Service
Canned Heat
etc etc etc

Video clip features Ramblin' Jack, Dan Hicks, The Charlatans, and Country Joe. Also features lotsa kind smoke drifts.

FYI Jim Gurley (BB&THC) did a blazing solo set early on, with new original songs about the obscenities of Bu$hCo. I recall the line about them smelling "like Satan's asshole".

3. I was there for a couple of hours
almost as festive as the human be in was but with more people selling crap. nice to hear the old mouldy hippie bands, some of the had even practiced a bit. I kept hoping the diggers would make a reappearance, they weren't even out in the panhandle. oh well you cant go home again...good bye chet & thanks for everything.

5. hiya
we stayed for blue cheer but left as paul kantner was taking the stage.
we were right near the celtic t-shirt booth. it would have been nice if barry melton and coutry joe had rehearsed their bands a bit. Blue Cheer shook off their acid haze, finally.

old hippie that I am I took off my sandals and ended up getting sunburned on the soles of my feet - a first & it still hurts.
& to add insult to injury my leg fell asleep while we were on the lawn & when I got up I fell on some poor kid. back in the day I would have at least been stoned.

unfortunately we totally missed dan hicks & the charletans. how was their set?
