Contrary to much speculation, Lennon's suit and the outfits worn by the other Beatles were simply what the four had been wearing on the day of the photoshoot.
Another jacket Lennon wore in his 1971 documentary Imagine sold for $32,000 US. Both the jacket and white suit were purchased by Florida developer and collector Anthony Pugliese, said Darren Julien, president of Julien's Auctions.
The auction, held in Las Vegas Saturday, also saw the sale of the 1953 Austin Princess hearse Lennon drove in Imagine for $150,000 US to Japanese entertainer Princess Tenko.
