"Display your patriotism for everyone to see, including your local troops and reservists"
Yup, support your troops by showing them you care enough to spend $15 on inflatable carp that you put up on your porch. Hoo-boy, I bet they'll just perk right up over that one :eyes:

Actually, there's another board I'm on that routinely uses 'carp' in place of 'crap'... it's a holdover from that :)
But I have to say, inflatable carp would be pretty cool too

...wandering around Main Street USA just looking for hollow displays of patriotism.
Aren't the troops and reservists we're allegely expected to support with that carp thousands of miles away, precicely NOT thinking about what Archie Bunker has on his front porch?
Fuckin' bloody hell... support the troops? Donate that $15 to the USO, or to a movement to bring them home.
on edit: and shut the fuck up.

You know, those blow-up things deflate ALL the time. I see blow-up pumpkins, turkeys, santas and snowmen deflated all over the neighborhood all winter long.
It's disgusting how cheap this "support" is.

27. You don't have to love war to support the troops |
|
They are Americans in harm's way and they weren't consulted about whether or not to invade Iraq.
I'm old enough to remember how unfairly troops coming back from Vietnam were treated - a bad war doesn't make our troops bad.

31. Well, I DO think it's jingoism. |
|
It's also, I would argue, a mostly empty sentiment by those who think slapping a sticker on the back of their SUV somehow makes them more patriotic.

32. And I respect your right to disagree |
|
Seeing things like this helps keep the atmosphere supportive for the families...But this poarticular one looks tacky. Again my opinions are colored by seeing the guys a few years older than me come back from Vietnam... I didn't see anybody spit on but I saw a lot of guys who deserved better than they got by being sent over there but also deserved better than they got coming home.

...how buying a made-in-China piece of jingoistic crap has anything at all to do with actually supporting the troops. Throwing in the Vietnam bit is a complete non sequitur in what was otherwise intended to be a humorous thread.
