A dark day in Red Sox history... Theo Epstein has resigned
he is clearing out his desk according to 7 news.

this, just minutes after it was being said that the deal would be announced and was done and dusted.

What a setback.

1. Brian Cashman just shit his pants.
He heard Steinbrenner pick up the phone and get his check book out.

3. They haven't had a good string of luck lately have they?
Manny wants out.....which probably indicates many other things that aren't going right in the locker room. And now Theo skips town. That isn't a good start to the offseason.

5. And the best in-house candidate
left yesterday to take the D-backs' GM job. Byrnes at least would have allowed a quick transition.

influence his decision.

Okay...now that is out of my system.

:puke::puke::puke:

Why the f$ck did he do that? What the hell is wrong with this team?? When someone wins you the World Series you give him whatever the f*ck he wants. "Oh, Theo...you want $4M a year, a private island and city hall renamed after you...consider it done." How hard is that?? If this is Lucchino's fault he needs to be run out of Boston on a rail.

Why do I know that we're not going to trade Wells because of this and he's going to retire; we're not going to trade Manny because of this, he sits out and we never get anything for him; We're not going to resign Damon because of this and we're going to finish in 3rd place. :nuke:

14. I hadn't
I'm in Hartford so I don't get Boston media content unless I go looking for it. Reading it now. Arrrgh! You know, I think Shaughnessy does crap like this to provide book content for himself to write about. What a jackass!

10. There's only so much you can do with a beat up old car
George already got his revenge. You guys got butt kicked like everyone else in the AL. SO back to decades of pleading and disenfranchisement from reality. Your ONE Championship is all you'll ever get to talk about in this lifetime. Kaput. Done. Fini.

We'll win at least two more by 2011.

12. And the Yankees will continue to talk about the 27 they won IN THE PAST!!!
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 06:39 PM by WeRQ4U
Sorry. Had to say it. Always a Yankees fan there to tell everyone how many championships his team has won 5+ years ago. The Twins won a couple in 1991 and 1987.......How many did the Yankees win THOSE years?

17. 26 more than you guys, 26 more.
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 06:57 PM by DainBramaged
We've had DiMaggio, Mantle, Maris, Reggie, Ruth, Yogi, Ford who when you speak about baseball, everyone knows who they are. No one has to ask what team were they on. And from 1995 to 2000, we won four. So your small consolation that we haven't won anything this Millennium (yet) is only consolation to yourself. You know it, I know it.

Who did Boston have, and ex Yankees who fled Beanfart City don't count that everybody knows their name? No one, repeat, no one.

Oh, before I forget. Clemens won two rings after he left Boston. One more than Boston will have in this lifetime.

18. 21
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 07:07 PM by Chan790
The Red Sox have won 6 World Series.
1903
1912
1915
1916
1918
2004

Ergo we only need 21 more to catch you; at the current rate thus far this millennium it will take the Sox only 105 years to catch and pass you sorry Bronx pansies.

edited because my math skills suck.

21. No, the other 5 don't count.
You guys whined for decades, the White Sox played in quiet solitude for 84 years, no bitching like you guys, stupid curse crap, newspapers bleating and you guys falling for it. I remember EVERY year, just about, last series every season we played you guys, and usually, we just beat you into the ground for shits and giggles. We did it again with one game to go, stole your pennant.

You guys gets credit for only one now. Babies.:sarcasm::spray:

15. Don't despair, Sox fans.
Really, how smart was the guy? Boston has the luxury of gobs upon gobs of cash to spend. What did he do that was really that much of a sign of genius? Yes, Boston won the World Series, but considering the level of talent they had for a while, it was hardly a surprise. If someone takes Kansas City to the World Series, that's a genius. This is just some guy. Chin up.

16. I'm not so concerned about the top 25 as the farm system... not to mention
he made some great, small money signings (Bill Mueller, David Ortiz.)

23. Exactly
Those small-money signings were what Theo did well. The Muellers, Millars, Ortizes, and so on made that team click just as much as the superstars did, and this is coming from a hardened skeptic of "team chemistry".

Theo's a great guy and a good GM. He will no doubt have a future somewhere else if that's what he chooses.

24. Cowboy up, Red Sox! Did the Dallas Cowboys complain when Jimmy Johnson
walked away from the team after two Super Bowl wins and the most solid young team in the NFL? Did the Cowboys fold and fall apart after that?

Well, okay, bad example.
