Halloween:Things aint like they used to be
Its halloween and I bought candy for trick or treaters. So far the only people that have shown up on my doorstep are high school kids who grabbed some candy, made some ass remarks under their breath and didnt even say thankyou.

I would have read those little assholes the riot act but Im sure they were looking for an excuse to TP my house. Its sad.It used to be about kids but between the radical right who want to abolish halloween and these spoiled fucking brats its no wonder this country is going in the toilet.I should expect this,Im in florida were fucking with people is a sport.

3. Seriously
There have been times when I felt bad about kids today growing up during this time.Bushco, the war,etc..But myself growing up in the 70s,Nixon,the economy, the war.I dont remember any of my friends acting like they way these kids did at my doorstep.

I feel sorry for the grade schoolers, those kids too young to know whats going on.But the older ones can go fuck themselves for the most part.I know they all arent like that, but many of them are too self absorbed. They are in for a big shock when reality sets in.

24. In our community, it's illegal for kids over 12 to trick-or-treat
I'd say I had two or three probably 13 or 14, but most were between 5-10.

2. Everything always looks rosier from the plateau of time
The "good old days." But back when I was a kid (a hundred or so years ago - actually, the 60's and 70's) although there were more little kids out, there were plenty of teenagers out too and they terrorized the neighborhoods. Egging, whipped creaming, rowdy trick or treating - all the same crap they do now.

The difference is, you don't see so many smaller kids because people are so paranoid about them going out. They don't let 'em out after dark (which takes away half the fun) and a lot of people don't let them out at all, choosing instead to send them to a party or to hold a party of their own.

I really don't think the kids behave any worse than we did as teenagers. We were awful!

4. I grew up in that time as well skygazer
what I remember was if someone was generous to you then you didnt F with them.Of course there were exceptions, some kids cant be changed but from my experience its worse than before. At least it is where I live now.

5. I'm sorry you've had such a crappy evening
Honestly, I haven't lived in a place that got any trick or treaters for quite a few years so I don't know what they're like now. I just remember us being pretty bad when I was that age.

8. Thankyou for your kind words stargazer
I spent most of my life living in apartment bldgs and in 20 years we rarely got trick or treaters.3 years ago we moved into a house. The first year I was there during halloween there were well behaved kids but the last two years have been mostly smart ass high schoolers.

Its not the end of the world of course but it makes me sad when I look at these kids and realize that they are the future. Most polls have said that young people are getting more conservative then ever,I think this halloween proved it.

6. Jeez-louise. Why not accompany them trick-or-treating?
That's what my mom and wife are doing right now. (It was my turn last year.) We've had a lot of little kids come by with their parents escorting.

19. Oh. I'm certainly not suggesting that you should be in charge of
chaperoning obnoxious teenagers. I'm just sayin' that parents shouldn't be shy about taking their kids trick-or-treating. I think it's really sad that some people won't let their kids trick-or-treat. If the munchkins are too young to go by themselves, then parent should do their job and accompany them.

12. Are people just not caring about Halloween anymore?
I haven't seen a whole lot of anyone on the streets tonight. Do people just not celebrate anymore?

No kids at my place. No one.

13. I've been getting mostly older kids,
mainly my husband's students.

They've all been polite. Maybe it's because they know he'll flunk their ass if they're anything but. (not really, but it makes a good threat)

14. It is sad how trick-or-treating seems to have dropped off
In my neighborhood back home, trick-or-treating has dropped off dramatically in the last few years. I think it's partly that most of the kids in the neighborhood grew up and haven't been replaced by younger families, but I also think it's parents being overly paranoid about kids trick-or-treating. (I haven't quite figured out why they don't think the kids would be safe if they just accompanied them; that's what my parents always did.)

This year I'm in an apartment in a college town (besides the fact that it's raining like crazy outside) so I doubt I will get any trick-or-treaters. I bought some candy to hand out anyway so I'd have it in case I got a couple. Oh well, I guess that means more for me if no one shows up! Still, it's kinda sad the way that trick-or-treating has dropped off; Halloween was my favorite holiday as a kid.

15. I was just wondering where the kids were,
and three of them, fairly little ones, just turned up. Daddy was standing back on the sidewalk. But there don't seem to be very many of them, even though the weather is nice.

17. ok, that's lame
I trick-or-treated with my girlfriends until...Sophomore year of HS (this was only 4 years ago). It was innocent fun. We liked dressing up and getting candy.

Now, I babysit kids and take them trick-or-treating...but I still dress up :hi:

23. I've been seeing less and less ToT'ers lately . ..
Had 11 pumpkins out (fakes, which I'll have pics of later), a big-ass bowl of candy . . . seriously, we have three streets-full of kids because I see them out a lot. There were maybe 45 kids in 90 minutes. It was a joke. And of course, you have the obligatory candy-thief teens dressed as nothing with pillowcases.
