Success Stories here: Bad Habits you've been able to conquer/control |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 05:48 PM by LynneSin
I was inspired by so many people here who have had success with their attempts to quit smoking. Everytime I saw a thread about smoking, I'd be the first one to comment on the horrors of smoking since I'm a lifelong non-smoker. But then I realized I had my own addictions which is eating. And just like smoking or any other major addiction I've had to struggle to resist going back to old habits and abusing my body with basically carbohydrate addictions. This is my one month aniversary and I've lost 25 lbs and one size (mind you, I dropped about 15 of it the first 2 weeks and I've been tapering down to the 1-2 lbs a week).
So this post is a cheers to anyone who has faced their own addiction demons and has conquered them. And hopefully an encouragement to those looking to quit something that they can read about other folks success stories.
Post them here!!!!

I gave them both up on the same day. I was in church. I said to myself, 'I don't want to do these things anymore.' And I don't. Somebody up there likes me. ;-)

both symptoms of extreme depression and anxiety. As I've come out of the depression, some of the OCD symptoms have eased considerably. I no longer always have a bald spot on my head, and far fewer scratches on my arms.
Oh, and suicidal ideation too. I've almost quit reflexively responding to anything bad by thinking, "oh, I'll just kill myself then." Cognitive therapy techniques helped a lot with that.

LynneSin, are you saying you lost 25 pounds in one month??? (with 15 pounds in 2 weeks)???
Tell us more -- how did you do that? I think I could stand anything for a month.

I used to be a chronic liar. I'd lie even if I didn't need to.
I also had a problem with alcohol (which may be back).
I quit drinking for 10 years and only went back into it for (failed) business reasons.

11. Work....I used to be addicted to my career......how embarrassing... |
|
it was a great way to hide from my personal life's problems. I could succeed at work. Now I don't really care if I 'succeed' or not...cause no one else seems to care if the companies I have worked for succeed or not, ha! And that new attitude is also reflective of a happier home life...albeit it's a chicken and egg thing....did I finally get so sick of being abused by employers that I put my energy into home life, or did my home life get better so I said to heck with always doing above and beyond at work? Happened simultaneously. Unfortunately, I still live off of carbohydrates (chocolate, Coca Cola), caffeine (coffee, mochas, Coca Cola), and cigarettes...ohmegod I just ran out of cigs BYE!
