Rome Came To A Standstill Today |
|
When they buried the 18 soldiers who died last week. They just played a clip on the news.
Kinda makes you think. An ocean away, a country comes to a standstill when less than 20 of its soldiers are killed.
Ours basically could care less. In that newscast, the lead story was Michael Jackson. Of course, we don't even get to see the caskets, let alone stop the capitol to bury the dead.

What a waste of young life-I'm sure the Italians are very angry about this.
Where is the outrage here? The NY Times shows the Italian funeral on the front page-we see nothing of the returning dead and wounded.

and this was the largest single-day death toll of their military since WWII. In this country, we seemed to have become jaded when reports of Military deaths happen overseas. What does that say about us as a nation? To my mind, it says we are too used to war. As George Carlin said; "We have had a major war every twenty years in this country! We're fucking good at it! We cant build a car or a TV worth a fuck but we can bomb the hell out of your country!"
