Archaeologists Find Oldest Known European Toothbrush

The use of toothbrushes did not become common in Europe until the introduction of sugar in wealthier households in the 18th century. German archaeologists have unearthed a toothbrush that they say is at least 250 years old.
The bristles of the brush, which was found on the site of a former hospital in Minden, have rotted away. The handle is approximately 10cm long and made from animal bone. One end is rounded into a tiny spoon, believed to be used for cleaning the ears.
Earlier this year a toothbrush was found at Quedlinburg, about 170km away. This toothbrush has been dated to around 1750. It is suggested that the 2 toothbrushes came from the same workshop
