Heard this over the loudspeakers at my local drugstore...
...then I ran home and fired up KaZaA. ;-) LOVE this song.

"New Frontier" - Donald Fagan

Yes we're gonna have a wingding
A summer smoker underground
It's just a dugout that my dad built
In case the reds decide to push the button down
We've got provisions and lots of beer
The key word is survival on the new frontier

Introduce me to that big blonde
She's got a touch of Tuesday Weld
She's wearing Ambush and a French twist
She's got us wild and she can tell
She loves to limbo that much is clear
She's got the right dynamic for the new frontier

Well I can't wait till I move to the city
Till I finally make up my mind
To learn design and study overseas

Have you got a steady boyfriend
Cause honey I've been watching you
I hear you're mad about Brubeck
I like you eyes I like him too
He's an artist a pioneer
We've got to have some music on the new frontier

Well I can't wait till I move to the city
Till I finally make up my mind
To learn design and study overseas

Let's pretend that it's the real thing
And stay together all night long
And when I really get to know you
We'll open up the doors and climb into the dawn
Confess your passion your secret fear
Prepare to meet the challenge of the new frontier

2. There is a cool 1950's style animated video for it too...
...I have not seen it since I was a kid...

3. Yeah!
That's where I first heard/saw the song, on early MTV. Great stuff.

4. I have that album
On vinyl, no less. My mom bought it for me for Christmas when I was in high school. The Nightfly is pretty good too. I wish I still had a turntable.

5. The Goodbye Look
That's a good one by Donald Fagan.Just listened to it today. I was searching for some songs that would support the Democratic Party.
So far I've come up with ones that were sung at the JJ Dinner in Iowa.
-Ready to Run...Dixie Chicks
-Revolution....Beatles
-I Won't Back Down...Tom Petty
-Little Less Conversation...Elvis

Can anyone think of anymore?

6. Cool -- fire up Kazaa so Fagan doesn't make a penny for that GREAT song
*It's not stealing*
*EVERYBODY does it*
*The record companies rip the artists off anyway*
*if I like it I'll go out and buy the CD (no really)*

Got a new one or just the same old bullshit?

:eyes:

8. Duh
After posting this, I went to steelydan.com to see what info they had on the album - turns out they released it on DVD-A in December of last year, with remastered audio, the video mentioned above, and other bonus material.

If either of my DVD players are DVD-A compatible, I will buy it, plain and simple. You don't even know what Fagan's views are on file sharing - but as I see it, it's no different than recording singles from the radio onto cassette tape like we used to.

I do NOT and never would download entire albums, and believe it or not, hearing singles thru KaZaA does make me buy more CDs. Get off your high horse, jackass.

10. When you write a post like that...
...responding in that way makes me feel very good. :D

Obviously, it makes you feel good to hurl accusations at people without knowing what the hell you're talking about.

7. I am Lester the Nightfly, hello Baton Rogue
let's turn you radio on.

The Nightfly is the name of the album and title song. The whole album is great. Becker plays on the album and it is really more like a Steely Dan album than a solo effort.
