1. I don't know.
Does anyone know?

Shameless kick. I really am thinking about something here.

4. that's the software, not the content
i think if you want to use someone's post elsewhere, a nice PM asking permission wouldn't be out of line.....

5. Ooops!
Yer absolutely correct about that copyright. I just saw it and assumed it was for the site. Second look showed that I was wrong. Thanx! :hi:

3. Creative works are automatically copyrighted at creation time
So aspects of DU are copyrighted, such as the way it looks and the content. I'm not sure exactly which part of the site you're talking about.

12. Hmmm. Looks like the calculus to me.
Lower case delta over lower case delta of x. Delta in the calculus is the derivative. But I might be off by a mile or two. Dr. Death Wray at Georgia Tech was a long, long time ago. But I did have a 3.8 in six quarters of calculus and then the diffy-Qs. Know what I mean, Vern?

13. DemoTex below is pretty close
It is calculus. It's the partial derivative with respect to x.

If you're not familiar with calculus, a derivative can be thought of as a rate of change. When your car's speed changes, you're accelerating. Acceleration is the rate of change of speed -- acceleration is the derivative of the formula for your speed (velocity).

In calculus, derivatives are often signified by the prime symbol. E.g. if f(x) = x^2, f'(x) = 2x. Since my name's aePrime, and I'm basically a mathematician, it fits!

10. So if someone used the posts from DU on another site,
would that be a copyright violation? Do you know?

9. Look at a representative sample: Will Pitt.
Will regularly floats an article here before it goes to Truthout. I have had op/ed published here with no discussion of rights. I assume that since DU does not pay, all rights to my work are mine.

I'm in a rights fight with a British magazine that buys my work. That's quite the international sticky-wicket!
