My chihuahua often takes a piece of food out of her bowl.... and

puts it on the floor. She then apparently makes believe it is alive, prances around it, feigns attacks at it... stares at it to make sure it isn't going to get away.... and when she is satisfied that it is no longer a threat... she picks it up and eats it.

She is doing it now... what a display of a case of imaginaries.... I could split a gut watching this.

4. That's not the half of it... if you say "come in" the siren starts... her

little bark... and she sits on the couch with about 1/2 inch of her tongue sticking out.... but when you get the laser light out and put it on the carpet, she becomes a ferrari and won't stop until she has "killed it".

One other thing.... if it is time to go outside... she will spin on the carpet sometimes... not chase her tail, just "spin".... like a whirling dervish... I hope I didn't rub off on her "too much"... they say dogs take after their masters.... but this is just too crazy.

5. My Commie Dog

Refuses to play with the pound puppie we gave him unless we move it around and have it attack him first. . .

It's funny . . . I'll take the Pound Puppy make weird noses. . . pop him in the nose(Gently I might I add) throw it like it's trying to escape. . and the poor pound puppy never stands a chance.

6. Dogs are just mutant wolves.

These are remnants of pack behavior. Once a non-alpha manages to snatch a bit of food, it must be dragged away to somewhere else, lest it be taken away.

7. Well, that probably explains why my pup ( the 5 month old)

will grab a mouthful of her dog food jump onto my bed, dump it out of her mouth, and eat it. Every morning I wake up surrounded by dog food crumbs. I have reached the point where I vaccuum my bed daily.

And, if she doesn't want to play with a toy, she won't be cajoled. I make two efforts with her and we're done. About the fourth time I try enticing her with a toy, she will take it, run far enough away from me that I can't get to her right away, drop the toy and piss on it. Then, I have to wash the toy. IMMEDIATELY!!! Because, that is now THE toy the one year old pup MUST play with....

Meanwhile, the alpha dog (seven year old male) could care less what these two do to entertain themselves. Nor, does he go near their food bowls - so why Melia is dragging her food into my bed, I don't know. Corki doesn't go near her food dish either.

8. Sam HATED her tail and occasionally tried to kill it.

Loved your chihuahua story! Oh what fun. I would try to get that on tape. Is there a way you could link to it here? I would love to see that. Reminds me of my kitty Sam.

Sam was incensed that she had a tail. Most of the time she positioned herself so her tail wasn't in her way. But sometimes she would sit or lie so that it would flicker a few inches in front or to the side of her face. You would see the entire rest of her body freeze when she first noticed the The Tail. First she would stare at it intently. Then she would begin batting at it. After batting a little while, her ears would go back and she'd start to hiss at it, too. When the tail paid no notice and kept taunting her, so she'd start in with her "Back off! I am getting VERY annoyed!" growls. When the horrible tail was not intimidated and kept tormenting her, she would start biting at it, in between swats and growls. On the one hand, I felt so sorry for her because I could see that she was getting genuinely quite upset. On the other hand, it made me laugh so hard every time that I kind of hoped it would continue. Eventually she would catch her tail and bite it, but then she would jump up in surprise because she didn't make the connection that she was biting herself, and she thought the tail was biting her. Then she would unleash a flurry of bats and bites and growls, and finally get so infuriated that she would give a really loud, angry yowl, and run away. After a few feet she would look behind her to see if the tail was chasing her, and it was, so she'd take another swipe at it and growl some more, then turn and run again. And that was the last I would see of her for awhile that day.

Funny, sweet Sam. How I loved her.

9. I've had dogs do that too.

I think they're just goofing - the equivalent of making gravy lakes in your mashed potatoes, I think.
