they survived after this album, really.

Master of Puppets was okay, only because it seemed like it was Ride The Lightning over again.

24. And Justice For All wasn't bad.
Their last true album. I loved the songs even though the didn't clean up the record very well. It's funny you guys say that Puppets and Lightning sound the same because I've always thought that the title track from Puppets and "For Whom teh Bell Tolls" always had a similar ring to them (no pun intended). Maybe every song sounds the same after the 6 minute mark.

16. No such thing
My favorite album of that era depends on my mood. I like the following bands a lot: dB's, Husker Du, Replacements, Minutemen, the Right Profile (who never got around to releasing an album and are therefore disqualified from this exercise). Claiming that any album is hands down the best of anything is just silly.

27. I beg to differ
Daydream Nation is a great album but I wouldn't claim it's the hands down best album of the 80s until I heard every other album released that decade. I hope there's some obscure gem from that era I haven't discovered yet.

better than Daydream Nation.

There's just too many albums I really like from the 80's...I guess, though -- considering an album as a whole, coherent work -- I'll have to go with Spacemen 3's Playing With Fire, 1989.

That disk rocks ferociously. I could make a strong case for Metallica's "Master of Puppets" as the best metal album ever, but "RIB" is hard to argue against.

84. I remember the first time I heard it. I was a college radio dj
and our music director had received a couple of copies of the RECORD. He told the few of us sitting around that we needed to hear it.

When I heard those songs and that music with Mitch Easter's production I was absolutely blown away. I made a cassette tape of it (before it got too beat up) and listened to it non stop for several days.

To this day I have still not heard anything that affected me the way that album did.

51. Yeah, Hounds was more commercial in some ways.
I think that people found it to be more accessible, but The Dreaming was such an exercise in conceptual sound that it stands out even in Bush's discography.

Like I said, nothing has ever been produced to rival it in terms of progressive music. It's completely out there on it's own.

85. Definitely in my top 10!! I had a roommate who bought "Doolittle"
and when I first heard it, I hated it. I was taping some cds and somehow half of "Doolittle" ended up on my tape (it was a 6 cd changer). I never erased the music and the more I heard it the more I liked it and wanted more!! I ended up finally buying the cd and I can honestly say it is one of my most played cds.

The songs, production and Joey Santiago's guitar playing are amazing on this record.

Another defining moment early in the decade. What else had ever sounded like that? Nothing.

Which proved what a thief Regan was when he stole the album to use it in his campaign. It's also springsteen at his best.
