Hilarious! CNN's Anderson Cooper "tips a 40" to the news we will miss
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 09:00 AM by underpants
Last night on his show 360. No video is available that I can find.

Tonight, taking Michael Jackson coverage to "The Nth Degree." Today's announcement of charges against one of the most successful, famous and infamous entertainers in the world could affect TV news even more than the O.J. Simpson trial did. The coverage and journalistic resources involved will be simply staggering. Already producers across the nation are clearing their slates. Network bookers are desperately seeking anyone who ever knew Michael Jackson, begging Uri Geller and Bubbles the Chimp to please call them back. (Holding hand to ear like he's on a phone)

So before it's too late, we wanted to take just a quick moment to say goodbye to some of the stories that, as far as the media are concerned, have breathed their last. (Someone hands him a 40 ounce beer in a brown paper bag and he begins to poor it onto the floor-probably into a bucket)So, so long coverage of lingering questions about regulatory oversight of the nation's securities industries. We'll miss you. Goodbye, in-depth scrutiny of the future of Medicare. Farewell debate over the new military and its role in a changing world. We hardly knew you.

This is for you, and all the other homies we lost today. We'll be with you again some day, on the other side.

2. HAHAHAHAH
Right now, he is one of my favourite hosts. Moyers is my favourite, but I watch Cooper from time to time. Ted Koppel also had something about everything that is happening as well.

Nightline

TONIGHT'S FOCUS: President Bush is in London, as are tens of thousands of demonstrators. His visit comes on the heels of a major policy change by the White House, and the acceleration of the plan to hand authority in Iraq back to the Iraqis.... And oh yeah, Michael Jackson may be arrested today.

This is a day in which the Nightline staff is pretty evenly divided. We have a meeting each morning when we talk out what we are going to do each night. Usually the plan is pretty well set, but not always. Today's meeting was pretty interesting. Our plan is to look at the President's visit to England, and at the plan his administration is putting forward to try to speed up the political process in Iraq that would allow for the withdrawal of at least some American troops. The approaching presidential election is clearly making this more urgent. This is a broadcast we have been planning for a while, and correspondent Deborah Amos will report on the plan for Iraq, and the Iraqi reaction, and Richard Gizbert will report from London.

But what about Michael Jackson? As I'm sure everyone knows by now, law enforcement in California served a criminal search warrant on his ranch out there. He is in Las Vegas right now. There are reports today that an arrest warrant has been drawn up, raising the possibility that he might be arrested today or in the near future. Apparently this investigation centers on allegations from a young boy that he was molested by Jackson. About ten years ago, there was a similar allegation, but it never went to trial. Instead there was apparently a settlement between Jackson and the family involved. Things this time seem to have gone far beyond that.

So if he is arrested, should we cover that tonight on Nightline? The staff is about evenly split. Some think it's a big story that we would have to do, others don't want any part of it. So what will happen? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Leroy Sievers and the Nightline Staff ABCNEWS Washington bureau

And then...

"TONIGHT'S FOCUS HAS CHANGED: The DA and Sheriff from Santa Barbara have just held a press conference, announcing that there is an arrest warrant for Michael Jackson on multiple counts of child molestation, and they are negotiating his surrender with his attorneys. We are going to switch topics to cover this tonight, we'll report on President Bush's visit to Britain and the situation in Iraq tomorrow."
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

That is Koppel for ya' :-)

6. Well they tried to do the same thing with the Robert Blake arrest
I personally sent all the networks and e-mail (on the old DU too) saying that we didn't need this story shoved down our throats. Many DU'ers agreed and I guess a lot of people around the country did too because they dropped it....only to pick up the Laci Peterson story.

But that was Robert Blake and this is one of the most famous people on the planet. I don't think we can even imagine the onslaught about to hit us. I feel for the kid of course but there are MANY way more important things that need attention and discussion.

When one of your "homies" dies it was made into a custom to poor a 40 ounce beer out off the curb. Sort like a 21 gun salute or a burial at sea, you know to commiserate the good times you had together and the ones that will be missed.

14. I'd never watched his show before I was just flipping around
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 09:15 AM by underpants
I may have to catch it more regularly. He was the host of the best reality show I've seen yet (if such a thing is possible) "The Mole". It went to the "Celebrity Mole" after two seasons (the second season it depbuted 9/4/03 I think and was shelved for a while) and finally they ended it. When it was an actual reality show it was very good.
