Is It Just Me, Or WasThere A Very Gay Scene In The LOTR Extended Version?

On the extended version, which came out Tuesday, there's a scene that was cut out of the theatrical release that I watched last night and was kinda like "Whaaaa?"

It's the scene right after Aragon, Legolas and Gimli find Gandalf in Fangorn Forrest. They're walking out of the forrest, talking about stuff and joking around, when Gandalf says something, then Aragon leans into him and gives him a queer smile and I thought they were about to make out right there. The both actually *chuckled* in this scene, too.

I had to pause the video because I was laughing so hard. It just looked totally out of place from every other part of the movie.

Anyone know of the scene I'm talking about? It's right before Gandalf calls Shadowfax (the white horse) and they ride to Rohan.

This was Aragon, leaning into Gandalf and giving him an impish "come hither" smile in the middle of one of my favorite movies.

It was just a really odd scene.

and Aragorn's just been joking about how Gandalf still talks in riddles. Is that the bit you mean?

I had forgotten what exactly Aragon said, but it was right after Gandalf had said the trees were going to do something big, that Aragon said "You still speak in riddles, my friend," and then leans over to him and smiles.

I swear, I thought Aragon was going to kiss Gandalf. Then the two of them kinda stared lovingly at eachother for a second, and then made fun of Gimli - who had some funny lines about the trees and what they have to talk to eachother about.

9. The whole Hobbit thing has pretty homoerotic undertones.

Not just Frodo and Sam, but Merry and Pippin, Frodo and Bilbo. There's about three hundred hobbit guys mentioned, and only two women, one of whom is a mad old bat, the other is an unobtainable barmaid who Sam only gets together with after Frodo has left the bloody continent.

a simpler place. You could have fast friends without the undertones of it having to do with sexuality.

As a culture we have become more ignorant and obsessive with things that we should be able to easily understand.

I always thought of Hobbits as being more child-like in nature without having to add in the predictable and inevitable sexual innuendos that litter the modern movie experience.

Tolkein was writing for a time gone by and not for market-driven Hollywood.

I saw the same scene, and I didn't catch anything like that. Neither did my step-son, who as a burgeoning nineteen-year old is highly attuned to anything the least bit homoerotic. (He considers it a threat to his newly developed sexuality). He has conniptions at the end of FotR, though, when Sam and Frodo are getting all cuddly, I can tell you.

How do you figure that? Aragon is in love with the Liv Tyler elf character, and at the end of the book Sam and Frodo both get married.

I'd say the movie, on an overall level, is more about the struggle to control impulses and reign in the power of greed and industry.

Besides Treebeard, Sauron, and Tom Bombadil (though he wasn't written into the movie) she is the oldest immortal in Middle Earth.

She may be on par with Gandalf in wisdom, but he is the stronger personality in courage.

Where Aragorn arrives at Helm's Deep after everybody thinks he's died?

Legolas smiles radiantly & says something in Elvish. The subtitles say "You're late" but other sources indicate he meant "Throw me down & shag me." Poor Eowyn smiles from a distance, then gets a somewhat dismayed look on her face. Is she thinking about Arwen's gift that Legolas is returning to Aragorn? Or is she thinking "Darn, all the good ones are gay--or my brother."

19. Having just watched it last night

You're speaking of the scene after Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn find Gandalf, now Gandalf the White. They're leaving the forest and Gandalf is telling Gimli not to worry about the hobbits and to not threaten the forest. Aragorn says 'you haven't changed in that you still speak in riddles' or something to that effect. Well, it didn't stick out as anything strange to me. I think it was just a moment to lighten the mood since the scene at Meduseld was going to be heavy. I didn't interpret anything untoward about Aragorn and Gandalf, they were old friends glad to see each other after having gone through tough times.

Sometimes I think people read too much into things, like on the cover of Disney's The Little Mermaid people complained that one of the castle towers resembles the male genetalia, or the guy taking a leak of the cover of Camel cigarettes.

lol. I never look for any hidden meanings in movies. But to me, this was just a funny scene.

I know it wasn't meant to look like Aragon was flirting with Gandalf, it just came across that way to me. :D
