being used by your government to shore up support for an illegal war is part of the criteria these days. Nothing else she has done would have qualified. Which she will tell you herself.

A vet here can tell you why you get that, for valor I think.Maybe they thought it would help keep her quiet.
Whatever, she deserves everything they can give her and more. This stupid war will never be over for her.

that was awarded the bronze for wearing a pack full of C4 when a bullit passed through it. We all knew that the explosive is very stable and cannot be detinated by a gun shot. I also knew a jerk that got a purple heart for tripping on a tent stake durring a motar attack...... he got a band aid on his elbow... What a puke!

she has been honest, and forthright, and hasnt in any way done anything wrong, so i for one, have a hard time begrudging her for getting it. More people than you know get bronze stars, especially field grade officer, just for "being there", so its about time the lower enlisted got a little something once in awhile.
No one should have any problems with her getting it. And by the way, its only for "valor" if the V-device is attached to it.

In GWI my armor company platoon leaders and platoon sgt's (and above, natch) got em automatically, it seemed, just for being there. E5&E6's got ARCOM's if they weren't unpopular. E-4's and below got AAM's if they were not out of favor.
What a joke.

Lynch was awarded the Bronze Star. A Bronze Star is usually given for an act of bravery. Her act of bravery was being unconscious in the Iraqi hospital. Here's what a Bronze Star citation looks like, courtesy of hackworth.com
"BSMs citing bravery typically read: 'Moving his machine gun to a forward vantage point, he covered the advance of the infantry with a heavy volume of effective fire. Repeatedly exposing himself to a devastating small-arms automatic weapons and mortar barrage …. ' Or: '(He) voluntarily acted as point man and ... when the platoon was fired upon ... charged the (enemy) position .... Through his courage, determination and devotion to duty, he saved his patrol from suffering casualties and captured a prisoner who later provided important information.'"
Also, there is no "Gold Star" medal.

the standard by which Bronze Stars WITHOUT the V device has been cheapened of late...that's an argument that is still going on inside the military. I think everyone who participated in Desert Storm got one, IIRC.
The V device is still supposed to be for valor, so there is a definite distinction between the one with and the one without it.

"Meritorious service in the republic of Vietnam" was the most frequently associated phrase and it depended on who nominated you as to what exactly that meant.
My older brother got his first for persistence...he kept flying his evac copter into a LZ until everyone who needed to got out... He got his second for surviving a crash...
