If You Love Music And Have A Brain In Your Head...
You will, with all due haste, find a way to go see Robert Randolph and the Family Band at the earliest opportunity.

http://www.robertrandolph.net/ (Warning: Dynamic site with a lot of stuff going on)

Robert Randolph plays pedal stell guitar in an explosive melding of rock, jam, gospel, blues and good old fashioned jump-for-joy music that absolutely, positively will not fail to put a big dumb grin on your face. I've seen this band twice, again last night, and words fail me.

The tour is winding down, so harken close:

11/20: Northampton MA at Pearl Street
11/22: New York City at Roseland Ballroom
12/03: Denver at the Fillmore Auditorium
12/05: West Hollywood CA at the House of Blues

Find this band. Go see them. Trust me.

1. I guess that means he put on an awesome show last night.
I'm still smiling from when I saw him two weeks ago.

Did you see Los Lonely Boys open?

They were quite good. A wee bit School Of Rock if you get me...playing one-handed, playing behind the back, flopping around like boated marlins...but very, very good.

5. I know exactly what you mean.
Still those guys are damn good too.

Sometimes Mofro opens for RR and the Family. That is another one to catch when you get the chance.

6. Um..I love music & have a brain.
I've been playing for a long time in fact. But Southern-fried music with extended jams (not to mention the admitted SRV influence) leave me cold.

Besides, it's just not like me to have a big, dumb grin on my face. A sullen gaze perhaps, but big, dumb grin? Not my cup o'tea.

Sorry.

9. It's not what you'd call 'Southern Fried'
That strikes me as Allman Brothers/Skynard stuff. This is a billion miles away from that.

8. Robert Randolph is amazing
Puts me in mind of what Stevie Ray Vaughan might have done with a pedal steel.

13. My husband is a graduate of the Muscians Institute in Hollywood
and a very accomplished guitar player himself! To bad this guy isn't coming to our "neighborhood" because we would love to check it out. Music is an integral part of our lives (more so than television and our kids are better for it)

14. And for an all acoustic choice
Check out The Asylum Street Spankers. There's no style they can't play, though they seem to center on old time acoustic blues. Their shows are always full-fledged ribald entertainment, played without the use of amplifiers, to which they refer as 'demon electricity'.

The lone female in the band has a voice that can handle anything from Betty Boop to Bessie Smith, and anything in between. She's got a sticker on her one of her guitar cases that says 'Bush is a Punk-ass Chump'

The music is awesome and well worth your time and effort to see and hear.
