14. I'm 34 but I hate these threads.... |
|
Because in a lot of ways they reinforce some preconceived notions I have about being harrangued and lectured to about politics by people who aren't even old enough to vote yet. So ultimately I'd rather not know how old many of the people are on here because if I'm going to insticntually dismiss them I'd rather it be because of their arguments and not because of their age.

17. What if they have a valid point? |
|
No fault of theirs how old they are. If they make a cogent argument, why care if they can step into a voting booth or not?

34. Again, if you read my post..... |
|
You'd see that I was saying that I don't want to dismiss someone because of their age, and it is too easy to do that sometimes. As I said, I would rather dismiss someone simply because they are making a poor argument, regardless of their age.

30. What does being old enough to vote have to do anything? |
|
I am sure I know alot more about politics then a large portion of the voting population. If you hate these threads then don't read them, I don't care if you dismiss my points or not, I am still going to make them.

33. See this is kind of what I'm talking about...... |
|
If you read my post and looked at the content rather than simply responding half-cocked, you'd see that I said the reason I don't like knowing if someone is that young is because I DON"T want to dismiss them simply because of their age. Like it or not that's just an instinctive reaction. My point was that I don't WANT to be that guy which is why I don't like reading these threads so that I DON'T dismiss something you or anyone else has to say because of their age.
But you proved my point quite nicely. Thank you.

I understand what you meant, I just stated if you don't like these type of threads then don't go to them. Then I stated what does being a voting age have to do with anything? I am sure I and other DUers who are not voting age know more about politics then most of the voting nation. My point was that I don't WANT to be that guy which is why I don't like reading these threads so that I DON'T dismiss something you or anyone else has to say because of their age. Then don't be that guy. I am glad I proved your point.

Is because I was the biggest half-cocked, shoot my mouth off, politically extreme teenager you ever wanted to meet. I know not all 16 year olds are like that, but for whatever irrational reason when I encounter people younger than me I automatically imagine myself at that age. I realize this is silly but it's one of the quirks of old age.
Believe me if I could magically go back in time and meet myself as a 16 year old it would be a fight to the death because I'm sure both of us(16 year old me and 34 year old me) would want to kick the other ones ass with a vengeance.

I was 55 in August, so I figure I can first-name him.
My younger son is only three months older than JohnKleeb, but no where near as politically savvy.
I really appreciate all you young'uns on the board. And also the ones who can call me kid.
