Any guesses on why no Christmas lights are up?
This year in Freeperville my neighborhood doesn't even have any Christmas lights up. Normally we have a smattering of lights up and down the street this year so far nada. I don't know why. How's your neighborhood doing?

1. None here
but it's not real cold or foggy yet, so it's hard to get into Christmas.

2. They'd need to mortgage the house to pay the electric bill.
Maybe some nice cardboard cut-outs this year.

3. just got home a little while ago and saw one
they had all the bushes lit up, as well as a reindeer & sleigh.

Whatever happened to the understated electric candles in the windows, and that's it?

5. Electric candles is all my family does.
Very, very simple. We agree that houses draped in lights look fucking tacky.

4. Don't live in a neighborhood, but I've seen
smatterings of lights popping up around town this week. NEXT week is when people will really start to go crazy. And I mean CRAZY. Plus, we Maine-ahs apparently have a fixation with these lights--many people keep 'em up until the snow starts to melt. Which can be April, some years.

:crazy::crazy:

6. Everyone in our neighborhood decorates the weekend after
Thanksgiving, traditionally. We're all pretty solid in our resolve that Christmas shouldn't start until after Thanksgiving is over, not hand in hand with Halloween.

7. I think it is a true sign of our economy...
I've noticed that we've had less xmas advertising too. Today the xmas machine got rolling, but it's a lot later than years past. (thankfully).

I think people are kind of avoiding it a little and I see it as a true sign of the economic stability of the US as a whole.

of course opinions are like ...
