6. Too late!

I'm a person with a killed television - some ladies at work take turns taping it for me, so I won't even get my tape til tomorrow!

Lucky for me, I don't mind spoilers! :)

I'm not suprised - after last week when I saw Krista and Sandra plotting against Rupert (!!!!!!) I knew he was toast.

I was amazed those 2 were trying to get Rupert off - but I can understand why they'd want to.

I hope Krista and Sandra make the final 2.

5. I wish he could bear children
Only so that I could hope that his kids come out sideways.

Needless to say--I despise Jon

From reading gossip bits when the show started--Probst hates his guts.

The show pisses me off--cause in a real survivor situation with pirates--the likes of Jon would have gone down with the ship (tied to the main mast for being such a colossal prick)

Not that I'm bitter, mind you.

Screw the rest of them (Lil included--shame on you--cry all you want--shame on you!)

They say they have to play the game--well that's a lousy excuse--there's something about playing it with some semblance of honor.

Hope they all starve for the next few weeks.

7. About John -
He's the PERFECT person to keep around, because he's annoying, no one likes him, but he kicks in around camp.

He is totally expendable - so he's the one to keep until the final 3.

Although - I'd get rid of him in the final FOUR - because it would SUCK to have him win immunity in the final 3.

9. I understand the logic--
It's been used countless times--and it sucks.

It is no longer a survival contest in that sense--

It's a friggin high school election--they can try and talk about "playing a better game, etc" til they're blue in the face--but it doesn't work--

This was working out to be one of the best of the Survivors--until the last week or so--then the same old patterns began to emerge--keep the annoying shit til the end and then bring him to the final two...

In reality- the annoying useless types (he can't even follow directions, he's lousy at the competitions, and he's rude to everyone, lies to everyone) would be conveniently dropped down a hole--but hey-- they're not playing real survivor then--

unless she wins immunity. It's really shaping up to be a despicable group left at the end. Maybe with Rupert gone, they'll get so hungry they'll turn to cannibalism.

11. Given his post-eviction bout of self pity....
I'm glad to see him go. Obviously he had no clue how the game is REALLY played. What, did he think that catching fish and being a caring nurturer was going to guarantee him a spot in the final two? Every season there's some naif who's shocked, simply SHOCKED when the rest of the tribe decides to act in their own self interest by voting off a strong competitor who's winning all the challenges, rather than granting him/her a free pass to the million dollars.

If they had not voted him off I would have thought they were stupid. Those people are not there to make sure Rupert gets a million dollars.

I thought it was funny that Sandra voted for John. I think that was her way of making sure Rupert was voted off without having to vote for him.

15. I never watched before this series,
and normally I would agree but this time there's actually a.) slightly less racism due to the castaway/pirate theme and b.) a great deal of sadistic pleasure to be derived in watching the helpless lazy Morgans starve and get voted out.
It's confirming a lot of what I like to believe about human nature (although it's disappoint that they voted out Rupert. It's also understandable- he has been acting like he's entitled to a basically free ride to the final two for the past few weeks and it caught up to him.) Lazy rude physical strength obsessed people "led" by a patronizing alpha male wanna-be destroyed by the more communal, cooperative, intellectual and generally decent Drake tribe. High point was skinny Christa holding on to more weight for longer than Osten a whiny gym-brat with inflated pecs (who's scared of a bloody pelican, he he.)
I don't like the survivor concept but this show had some good moments despite it.

I've watched every episode of every season, and have to detect any real racism; given that you admittedly have never watched before, I'm curious what you base this commment on.

48. heh
Shii Ann thought there was racism and tried to play it. There was culturalism there, yes.

Ghandia and Ted? They were both black.

Helen and Clay? Ted just came up to Helen and asked her, point blank, yes or no, if she had ever heard Clay say anything racist. She said yes. That was it.

The original comment led me to believe there was an institutional racism to the game I just haven't seen.

46. I've watched individual episodes of a few other seasons
but this the first season I've followed every episode of.

I always had a problem with a large group of relatively affluent Westerners arranging themselves in "tribes" with generic "ethnic" sounding names and planting themselves uninvited for a few weeks in 3rd world countries where we're supposed to be impressed that they don't starve in 40 days (no one starves in 40 days even if they eat nothing) where a few miles down the road you can find thousands of (admittedly dark-skinned) people who starve for 40 years and don't get a million bucks for it. You don't see something a teensy bit racist and insensitive- a tendency to devalue the struggle of the _real_ survivors in favor of rich, spoiled Americans in bikinis who are there to lose weight and gain publicity?

And then there's the appropriation of deeply significant cultural symbols to make "immunity idols" that "tribe" members win. From a post-colonial standpoint, it's just tacky and hard to watch.

This one though starts with the whole castaway/pirate thing which is a bit easier to take and it was great in the first episode where Sandra set her whole team up to win because she could speak Spanish and showed greater sensitivity for the people in the village. I still don't like the "tribe" concept or the "idol" thing and wish they'd change their terms but it's probably too late now.

40. His banishment points out the stupidity of "reality" shows
I've never watched this show, but I've heard enough about this Rupert guy from friends and coworkers that he seems to me to be clearly the best "Survivor". I guess if you want to win at this dumb game, be the most generic, innocuous person you can be, but don't lose any contests for anyone.

The idiotic set-ups and challenges they give people on these reality shows are about as far removed from "reality" as the most generic game show. A guy in a chicken suit on "Let's Make a Deal" is more representative of reality.

I'm sensing this genre is running out of steam, and it's about damn time. But that's just my opinion. Yours may differ.

that these shows are intelligent. I just take exception to being called an idiot because I like this particular "reality" show.

Survivor is a gameshow. At least that is how I would categorize it. I certainly don't think it has anything to do with reality, any more than anything else on television does.

Hell, I watched parts of "The Bachelor" with my wife, and that was about the biggest waste of time in my recent memory. I was an idiot for watching that, but I wouldn't call anyone else an idiot.

I just think it's terribly disingenuous that they call these "reality" shows when they are as far removed from reality as can be. And I call the shows stupid because they are stupid.

he looks like a pirate on a pirate-themed show, he's not an ass, he wears a skirt, he's the only reason the rest of the contestants haven't starved to death. Mostly, I think it's because he looks all big and scary but he is really sensitive and caring.

29. This is what I would do if I were Sandra or Christa
Simple - go to the 2 girls on Morgan and tell them that they are setup for 5th and 4th place and that Burton, Lil & Jon are going for final 3.

If they have a shot of voting Burton off of the island (he doesn't have immunity) then they should go for it. If those 4 girls (Sandra & Christa from Drake, Tijuana and Darrah from Morgan) combine up then they have will all have an equal chance of winning the million dollars. But if T and Darrah stick with Burton then they have no chance.

I loved Rupurt - but I saw it coming

32. wow - that would be awesome
He talked about how he could have made a difference if he won the money, but I have a feeling that Rupert will still make money off of his stint on Survivor. If you look at the ratings of all the castaways he has a 9.6 (out of 10) and the 2 in alliance also have high ratings. But the rest of them are all below 5 with their ratings. (Jon is like 2.3 - no one likes that asshole).

I can see someone picking him up to do endorsements or something that he'll make some bucks off of it.

I have to admit after the last 2 seasons I swore I would quit watching the show. But this has to be the best year ever and bringing back the outcasts really made a difference in how this show is going. Probably the best season EVER after the first season.

I heard an interview with Jiffy-Popst talking about it. They're filming now. Contestant names already released include Rudy, Rich and Susan from S1, Jerri and Colby from S2, Ethan from S3 and Rupert from S7.

It's taking place at an island neighboring the one used for S7 and will begin airing immediately following the Super Bowl.

37. Rupert leaving was a bit of a shock, but...
They've been hinting at it for weeks now. Burton knew he had to get rid of him in order to have a chance to win. If Rupert makes it to the final five, he's got it in the bag. He'd win every IC, and take Sondra to the finals (he'd definitely win against her). By eliminating Rupert now, Burton has put himself into position to win every physical IC from here on out.

What I want to know is, what the hell is up with Sondra? She MUST have know that Lil was going to vote for Rupert. Otherwise, she just screwed herself. Look for Sondra to go next week.

45. I liked Rupert but...
...he was starting to annoy me a bit. He was a little too controlling and seemed to think that the other players should roll over and allow him to win challenges. He also pretty much established himself as THE alpha male
(probably the most alpha of any Survivor contestant ever) and those guys are always voted off and the other contestants do somehow manage without them.
