Advice needed, please! I got screwed :(
Now that I have your attention :)
I ordered something from half.com about a month or 6 weeks ago, and I have not yet received the item. (It's a Nightmare Before Xmas DVD). Anyway, I tried to contact the seller and got a message saying "This person no longer has an account at half.com" or something like that.
Is there anything I can do to get my money back? It was only about 12 bucks, but still, I'd like either the DVD or the money.

1. How did you pay?
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 03:25 PM by ohio_liberal
If you paid with Paypal, you'll need to check the date and file a complaint. I believe you have to do this within 45 days. If you mailed a money order/cashier's check, you'll should file a fraud complaint with the post office and the FTC. They'll send letters to the seller but truthfully, it's hard to get any real results unless it's a high dollar item. If you paid with a credit card, check on their chargeback policies.

You can also use half.com's buyer protection policy. Haven't used half.com for a long time so I don't know their time limits.

4. Buyer Protection stuff here:

What happens if I haven't received my item and it's past the estimated arrival date?

You can contact the seller using Half.com's Email Forwarding System to resolve this issue.

1. Click the My Account link near the top right of the page. You may be asked to sign in.
2. Click the Purchases link. Your most recent purchases will be listed on this page.
*If the purchase in question is not on this page, you can choose a past view from the drop down menu to the right next to "Period:" Then click "Go"
*If the purchase in question is not on this page and you have the transaction number, enter it in the "Search Transaction" box and click the "Search button."
*If the purchase in question is not on this page and you do not have the transaction number, you can locate the purchase by the Seller ID and clicking the "Search button."
3. Once you've located the purchase, click the corresponding "Contact Seller" link on the right side of the screen. We strongly recommend that you send a copy of this email to your self. "Send me a copy of this email." button will be checked by default

If you do not hear back from the seller or you are unable to resolve the issue, you can return to this page and click the "File Claim" button.

What does Half.com do to protect my purchases on the site?

Every Half.com Buyer is covered under the Buyer Protection Policy for the first $750 of every purchase, subject to the policy guidelines. For more information on the Buyer Protection Policy, click here.

Oops, sorry, I posted this in the wrong place.

3. I'm not familiar with half.com
Is it part of Ebay? Your purchases are automatically insured up to something like $300 at Ebay. I've never had to use the service, so I don't know how well it works.

Similarly, paypal insures purchases. If you used a credit card, you might get the card company to cancel the charge. 6 weeks may be too long, though. I don't know.

5. It is a part of Ebay. half.com specializes in books, music, and dvds.
You type in what you are looking for and you are given a list of all the sellers who have that item and how much it costs. It lists condition of items as "New", "Like New", "Very Good", and "Good".

I have purchased quite a few cds and a few books from here and have never had a problem. It is a great place to find cds you are having a hard time locating.

6. Thanks
I didn't use paypal, I used my debit card, so basically it's as if I wrote a check.
Thanks for the advice guys, and sorry I posted this in the wrong place. I got confused about what goes where.

7. You can dispute this charge with your bank, they'll get you a refund.
It's the same as using a "visa" (not writing a check) when it comes to an issue such as this.

Good luck.

8. I did that once and it worked.
I think the complaint has to be filed within 90 days of purchase, is all. :hi:

9. There are certain guidelines but it's been a while since I worked in a
bank so I don't recall the specifics. 90 days sounds about right.
