I HATE Harley riders!
I am pissed! It seems some "bikers" have decided my road is real nice to ride down. It is a country lane, real rural and country like. I rarely hear a sound out here and these fools road past my house three times today! I was inside the house the first time doing some work and felt the need to go out and see what the rumble noise was- Three "bikers" going by on really loud harley's. What the hell are they thinking, putting pipes on the bikes that are obnoxious? I didn't move to the country to be disturbed by some assholes motorcycle.
Sorry- rant over.

P.S.- anybody know where I can get some piano wire?

Gotta go with the quiet crowd here.

The old "Loud Pipes Save Lives" is bullshit. Loud pipes are just loud, and showing off.

Showing off and the testosterone that goes with it is the cause of 95% of all bike wrecks.

30 seconds of pipes out on the American road. Oh Boo-hoo.

I dont ride, but whatever you do, dont move to Daytona, y'all would "hate" all the american riders here too.

I don't know how it is there but here they roar down the road to stop at one of the bars and sit there idle and roaring the engines.

Want to ride the highway? Cool. Have a GREAT time.

Want to go down my street? Have some respect for me as I am expected to have respect for you.

7. Yes it is
But your freedom ends when it intrudes on my life. I don't make it a point to make obnoxious noises when I pass by other peoples homes. I don't think others should be imposed upon by my need to draw attention to myself. If you ride a bike, fine. If you put pipes on it that make it much louder than the factory bikes- your an asshole.

Oil on the curves? Or loose gravel?

15. You are correct
Thats what makes him an asshole. Why do people feel that it is right to intrude on other peoples lives? Why did he spend extra to have a bike you can hear a mile away? Sorry, he is free to ride anywhere he wants- but he shouldn't feel a need to inform me about it.

By the way, I live 1/4 mile from the road and it sounded as if he was at my front door.

21. Then why am I not as free as him?
I want to put an aftermarket exhaust on my car, for free-er flow and better performance. I also want to make sure it sounds good, but not loud and obnoxious. But if I were so inclined, why couldn't I just run straight pipes out the hood, with no muffling of the sound whatsover?

Because that, my friend, is against the law. But apparently no such restrictions exist for bikers, so they are free to ride down the block and rattle windows and knock pictures off the wall.

Noise ordanances should be applied to bikes as well. Remember equality?

34. The laws do exist, they are just not enforced
Don't ask me why. I have no idea.
I suppose it is like most laws pertaining to motorcyles, the laws are so poorly written (because very few legislators ride) that they are not enforceable.
That is the case with a number of bike laws in NY.

40. what about inspections
In my state at least, cars need to be inspected every year like cars, this should be checked just like everything else.

Another word about enforcement, the local cops like to pull people over with overly loud exhaust, but its only cars. The modded harleys with no mufflers never get pulled.

to bother with.
Inspections for bikes are different
A bike mechanic gives the owner a sticker to put on where he wants. Most bikers go to the same guy who did the work on the exhaust in the first place, so they want more biz from the guy, not less... dig?

18. Check out tons and tons of case law
The rights of one individual end when the intrude on the rights of another.

He has a right to have a peaceful home, as he is 1/4 mile away from the road and does not normally hear road noise. This means the noise was excessive, ergo they violated his right.

One pass down the road is ok, two times is suspect, three times tells me they are *ucking with my lifestyle.

Look at you, all proud that you decreased the value of your neighbors property. Good job Amigo- I hope when you wish to sell your property your neighbor is just as helpful!

once you get done with the Harley riders, how 'bout coming out here to where I live, and tell me how I can do something about the sideways baseball hat wearing crowd who feel compelled to drive through town with the windows down and enough bass coming out of the car to literally rattle my windows. I wouldn't even mind if they were listening to MUSIC, but that sh** isn't music lol. A turntable is NOT a musical instrument.

We ALL have to deal with sh** we don't like from time to time. I'd take a loud Harley any day.

47. you'll have a VERY tough time with the noise thing...
depending on your laws, especially during the day. Most noise ordinances don't kick in until evening, like 8:00pm; even if there's stuff in there about noise over a certain decibel, you'll have to have a decibel meter to recored the noise, or get the cops to come down and do it.

And, the last thing you want is to have some bikers pissed off at you for calling the cops on them. Unless they drive by 10 times a day for the next 6 months, it might not be worth the hassle.

42. i agree
One thing i've always hated about motorcycles was the loudness...Honestly, they are not that far from the noise level of auto races i've been to, and that "loud pipes save lives" is a total crock...

Riders on sport bikes drag race down my street all the time most nights (the same road which has a MD State Trooper's Office)...No matter how many times i've gone to them and complain about lost sleep, they have said there is nothing they can do (WTF?!?!?) They can't chase the riders, because the riders simply outrun them (and the riders know that) and they can't use spike strips (my idea) because of liability to the rider's health in case of an accident...So they continue to ride with impunity while i try to sleep...I don't care, I'm moving the hell out of here as soon as i can

harleys are indeed nice looking, classic bikes. but they are way overpriced and way underpowered for the money you pay.

My Dad has a friend who lives next to a teenager that comes home about midnight every night of the week. He leaves his "stereo" on for ten minutes or so after he turns off his car.
Dads friend has started cutting his lawn at 6 am every morning and using a leaf blower near the kids bedroom window. Hey, its a free country isn't it?

who are proud of their ability to wake the dead.

And the rolling boomboxes, too.

Trucks, and the Jake brakes, are bad enough, but at least they have some purpose. Construction, the sounds of the city alive... I can't for the life of me understand what point there is to deliberately just making noise.

Then, there are the motormouths...

Noise, too much noise. Are there birds singing? Wind whistling through trees? Frogs croaking? A piper in the woods? Who would know? Are not the sounds of nature, art and commerce enough? I suppose not.

In my darker moments, I want them all dead. Very, very dead. That's the only way to shut them up.
