Opus in the Sunday paper. (I'm not spoiling it for anyone)
I'm not going to tell anyone what the strip was about, but damn! it felt so good to see him on the front page of the Sunday funnies in tomorrow's paper.

3. One of the sad points of living in NYC
The Times, the only decent paper, has no comics page. The papers that DO have comics pages are those shitty little tabloid things (Daily News and POst) which prints comics really small, and I doubt they carry Opus anyway due to the condition Breathed has of printing the entire comic as a half-page.

Wish to hell there was a paper I could buy here with a sunday comics page.

4. Denver Post not carrying (yet, at least) either...
The Pueblo Chieftan apparently does, but there was a notice on their website that they are not allowed to publish on line until a week after it appears in print. Wash Post also carries, but I don't think they are going to post online at all.

So, I'm going to ask... what was the subject of this week's opus?

11. Second Comic on the First Page of The Pueblo Chieftain Comic Section
Right below "Classic Peanuts".

All the other comics were shrunk a bit to make room. And they used this opportunity to eliminate the most worthless feature of all in the comic section - "Uncle Art's Funland".

7. My paper didn't pick it up
nor did the other six I wrote to that our newstand carries. (even the one that promised they were getting it). guess they couldn't give up the space for that high-demand wonder that is prince valiant.

I emailed Breke Breathed and asked him if it would be available online, but he said he's not allowed (must be a syndicate issue).

which paper did you find it in?

....so this is the part where I beg you to scan it and share.

if you don't want to post it, just email it to me.Please!?!

I'm a Breathed fanatic and I'm not handling this well.

9. None of the papers that carries it is allowed to post it...
until one week after the original publication date. That was the disclaimer on one of the Colorado newspaper sites. I am going to go out later and gt it, since it appears the DENVER POST IS carrying it after all, but don't have a scanner- sorry!

You might try going next Sunday to denver post: www.denverpost.com or the puebloc chieftain: www.chieftain.com
Here's what they posted on their site:
By the way, Breathed's deal with The Chieftain and all newspapers that purchase Opus contains an interesting clause: We cannot post Opus on our Web site until one week after it's published in our newspaper.

Breathed is a huge believer in newspapers, and that's where he wants to initially display his work.

12. i found it
the newstand across the river had the columbus and lexington papers, which carried it (columbus did a much better job reproducing the coloring and featured it much larger, btw)

so i'm happy now

i'm scanning it for a friend in a minute, so if anyone else needs to see it...

13. Breathed interview in SFGate
MR. BREATHED'S OPUS

Phil Frank Sunday, November 23, 2003

The scene: a corner table at John's Grill on a recent damp day. Media folk kibbitz over crustaceans while two cartoonists have a chance for a little one-on-one, a rare treat because they are separated by a great distance.

Besides questions being answered, pens are drawn and characters rendered to illustrate, literally, various points. Berkeley Breathed is difficult to corner, even when sitting in a corner. But in this cartoonist-to-cartoonist chat -- one of the few, and very infrequent, interviews he's giving -- he gives us a small peek inside one humorist's psyche as we celebrate his return to the Sunday comics pages after an 8-year hiatus.

Phil Frank: Are you back because you felt that at this point the world needed Opus, or were you missing your bully pulpit?

Berkeley Breathed: The world needs Opus? Right, it needs him like a fish needs that nerdy electric Segway scooter. Or heck, like a human needs a Segway.

Rather, it's what Opus needs. Which is finishing. Unfinished characters make me as unsettled as a messy hallway will keep my wife from sleeping soundly..

Q: There's not a lot available about your background, Berke. But readers are interested in the creators of the features they enjoy. Give them, if you would, a little information about yourself.

A: Don't hafta. Can't make me..

Q: You have pulled a bit of a coup by not allowing any of the papers that have purchased your Sunday strip to actually see the feature before it appears.

Explain why you did this.

A: Because of the damn Internet and the snarky little office imps -- especially ones around newsrooms -- who feel they need to upload everything they can get their sticky little digital digits on. It's more fun if you didn't see the next two months of cartoons in advance all over the Web, wouldn't you agree? Say yes..
