Unity Churches, are they liberal? |
|
I've heard from several people about a Unity church not far from me that is supposedly liberal. Given that I have been badly burned in other "christian" demon-ations (not a misspell), I am very cautious. However, I've liked what I have heard so far.
If anyone attends, has been to, or knows anything about Unity, please respond.

1. Find a non denominational church |
|
I go to one, it's very liberal and the best church I've ever been to... beats those lengthy catholic services I sat through as a little kid for communion class.

used to drag me to his pentacostal "non-demon" church. Where they would try to get me to speak in tongues and get slammed by the spirit.... then told me i had no faith b/c it didn't work (wtf ever). Played drums for them too.... off the point here.
Anyways... they were very very right wing.

pantacostal "non-demon" church?
I'm just talking about an open minded christian church i go to that doesn't care about what the hell "sect" of christianity you are. It's a "you believe in god, that's cool, come to our church, sing songs and eat donuts in the fellowship hall afterward!" kinda church.

It does depend on the individual church because each church can pretty much do its own thing; the only requirements are the most basic of Christian beliefs. I belong to a UCC church, and my pastor cannot stand to see or hear bush* on TV any more than I can.

4. I attended a Unity chruch for many years... |
|
They will quote Buddha from the pulpit as often as the Bible, and are openly accepting of diversity in all forms. My church had a monthly shamanism group, too. That's something you won't find in a consefrvative demonination.
In a word, yes, the Unity chrurch is a very liberal, very diverse, very accepting community.

I've always been curious about them....(I learned to swim in their community pools, but my mom was not a member of the church)...

I know that I got married at a Unity Church (in a gay wedding) here, so I'd say it's a pretty liberal church :-)

And watch the "non-denominational" tag. Some churches that use this label are fundie to the core.
