How Do I Download Songs Off Limewire To My iPod?
I ain't given $.99 to big Mr. Apple every time I want to hear a good song. LOL! So now I need to know from my fellow brilliant DUers how to transfer songs that I have already downloaded on Limewire to my new iPod.

Help! Any help you can give me is appreciated, big time!

1. Just load them into iTunes
And then do what you would do with anything else in iTunes.

3. Haha, not at all...
File --> Add Folder To Library

Then just find the folder where your Limewire downloads are stored.

5. Okay,
There are a couple of different files under Limewire and 2 main ones. Those are ".Network Share" and "root". Under root, there is one called "magnet10". But, when I try to transfer files from Limewire to iTunes, it looks like there is nothing there. As in, there is nothing in the Limewire files. I know that can't be true because I have downloaded plenty of songs off of Limewire.

When I do what you tell me, it just pops up a shot of my empty iTunes library. I've got to be doing something wrong b/c what you are telling me sounds right.

Crap, I hate being computer illiterate! I'd rather have the speaking abilities of Bush but yet know how to do such as this. ;)

6. You're trying to open the folder where Limewire is installed...
Not the folder to which it downloads the music. Check your Limewire settings and it will tell you where to find that folder.

7. Slowly but surely...
Okay, I've gotten some old files that I had off Shareaza before it kinda self destructed and I changed to Limewire, lol. I did exactly what you said and ran into those files. That was the Shareaza list though...

Here is the address at where my downloaded files are located: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Shared

Now I just need for you to point me in the right direction as to where to find that. I know it's in the C Drive... but that's about all I can tell ya.

Again, I really appreciate you helping me out!

8. Well the directions are right there...
Open up My Computer double click the C: drive, then open Documents and Settings --> Owner --> Shared

If that doesn't help, I'll have to break out the viisual aids, haha, because that's about as straightforward as I can make it.

9. I use Sony's Connect and they have an import feature
You just need to look in the tool bar and you'll find the feature. Then you need to know where you saved your files which will probably be somewhere in the Document & Sharing folder.

15. No, they work just fine
I've got tons of stuff I d/l'd off both Limewire and the 'old skool' Napster, and iTunes/iPod has no problem with them at all. iTunes will even convert .wma files into .mp3 format so you can put them on your iPod.

I was a hardcore MusicMatch Jukebox user before 10.0, and I switched over to iTunes because I replaced my six-year-old 16mb Diamond Rio with an iPod Nano. I haven't looked back.

18. both are pretty good, IMHO
I got the 2 gig nano because there's no moving parts (all flash memory, so less chance to damage it if it's dropped or bumped (I'm a klutz)), and it was a decent combination of features/price. The Creatives are also really good, too.

24. A 16Mb mp3 player?!
What's that, four songs at CD quality?

How much did you pay for that in 1999?

Yikes, yikes, and yikes!

23. As an independent muscician with music available on iTunes I say....
Rembember that you are actually taking money from the musicians as well as Apple. I understand you think you are sticking it to the man by refusing to buy music, but believe it or not you are actually making it more difficult for musicians to survive in the end.

It may not make a difference to most mega-acts, but it really does to the smaller ones. And you'd be surprised how difficult it is for bands signed to labels to actually make any money.

Do what you will, but if you love music I urge you to support the people making it by buying something if you like it. Personally, I download songs to see if I like them enough to keep them around, then I purchase what I want to keep.

Most musicians have day jobs and will rarely, if ever, survive off of their art.

If you love art, please support it.

26. I Understand
I wouldn't do that to "you guys." But, I have little remorse for stealing from the mega artists. Neither is exactly kosher, but there is a difference like you've already mentioned.

By the way, I have a cousin that has music available on iTunes. I just found out last night in fact. She is into the Indie/college rock sound. I had no idea she was on iTunes...

Also, what kind of music do you play? I might like to check out some of your stuff sometime. :)

27. Thanks for hearing me out...
I play modern rock that has a lot of late 60s psychedelic influence in it.

You can check out our stuff at http://www.uhfweb.com or http://www.cdbaby.com/uhf3

Thanks for understanding my rant/whine. It's an interesting road making music these days - most people have kind of moved past the notion of buying music, so you have to get creative in order to survive.
