Creamed Corn... Do you like it? |
|
Let me first preface this by saying I don't. At least NOT the kind IN THE CAN. :puke:
BUT...my grandmother always used to provide a delicious version made with melted cream cheese, a little milk, butter, and onion salt. It's got a TON of calories in it which is probably why I like it so much.
I've carried on that Thanksgiving tradition w/mixed results. The members of my family who like it, LOVE it; While those who don't HATE the stuff. There seems to be no in-between. So I always provide a plateful of regular, buttered corn and the caloric monstor for the rest of us.
Has anyone else ever heard of this type of creamed corn and if so, what do you think of it?

1. I prefer regular kernel corn or corn on the cob. |
|
I don't HATE creamed corn, but I never buy it for myself. I only eat it when mom cooks it.
That caloric monster sounds good, but you might want to have a cardiologist on speed dial. :D

My sister made this dish last year called "The Spirit of Nick Corn Pudding." (So named because the recipe came from her ex-boyfriend. They're long broken up, but his spirit lives on...)
It was somewhere between corn bread and creamed corn. Hard to describe. Really good, though.

I am a (nearly) lifelong resident of Iowa, "the tall corn state", and I hate creamed corn. But fresh corn on the cob, now thats a whole different story. A freshly picked ear of corn, a grill, mmmmm! Too bad its so damn cold now.

Not for me, thanks. But then again, I don't like corn, or mostly any vegetables. :)

I can't stand it from the can. I've never had a homemade version. Of course no way of eating corn compares to fresh on-the-cob.
But I do love my grandma's homemade creamed onions. Just slather over ham, and mmmmmmmmm.

Try a teaspoon of bacon drippings in the canned cream corn and a dash of black pepper! It's like turning a sow's ear into a silk purse!

Even from the can - but a no no on Atkins. When I get 5 pounds under my goal it is on my pig out list. Only 2 away from goal - so won't be long now.....

19. Creamed corn is an abomination and I shall not eat it |
|
In any form.
An aside: I remember an episode of MASH where Father Mulcahy grew a small crop of corn so the troops could have one meal with corn on the cob, and the cook creamed it.

20. My mother-in-law used to make a casserole |
|
with a couple cans of creamed corn
a can of regular corn
and a package of jiffy corn mix.
Maybe it had butter and/or something else.
It was pretty good for Thanksgiving like occasions. And I don't usually eat that sort of stuff either.

but creamed corn - what IS that stuff? It looks predigested. It tastes like candy. Why would you need to add a slimy, sweet sauce to corn, which is inherently sweet to begin with?
