What's your favorite Midwestern State?
I love Iowa - Iowans are always kind, decent folks, their corn is to die for, the women are smart and beautiful, and they almost always vote Blue!

Oh yeah, and Henry A Wallace was from there too!

And I'm from Michigan. I've never met a person from Ohio who wasn't very friendly. I love those folks.

Cedar Rapids and the Amana Colonies would be enough by themselves, and there's more.

14. My dear Rev......
How sweet of you! I only lived there for about 5 months, till my dad was drafted into the Army for WWII....

I was born in Ripon while my dad was teaching at Ripon College.

How different my life would have been if we had stayed there......

I made a return trip back in 1991; a kind of mini-Roots thing....

I loved seeing the town. And the house my folks had lived in was still there; the people living there allowed me to come in and have a look!

This smiley: :spank: The one spanking is frowning, but the one receiving the spanking is smiling. I think I enjoy the punishment almost as much as I enjoy being naughty.

Forgive my mental leaps. They often leave many people behind - including myself.

I would have added MI, since I like visiting there, but there's this problem I have with this football team in Ann Arbor. Aside from that, Michigan is wonderful.

Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 02:08 AM by Lydia Leftcoast
>Home of many fine Democrats, including Paul Wellstone, Eugene McCarthy, Walter Mondale, and Hubert Humphrey

>More than 10,000 lakes, many of them surrounded by pines, the Boundary Waters National Park, the North Shore of Lake Superior, and our side of the "driftless" area of the Upper Mississippi River valley (admittedly, we share it with Wisconsin)

>The cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, still gracious cities in many ways, despite their icky suburbs, and home to many fine educational and cultural institutions, such as the University of Minnesota, Macalester College, the Minnesota Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and American Public Media (the production arm of Minnesota Public Radio). Lots of live theater, lots of choral music. Great colleges outside the Twin Cities, too, including Carleton and St. Olaf, which are both in the town of Northfield.

> A New England-Scandinavian-German-Irish heritage now being overlaid with a fascinating mix of Latino, Southeast Asian, and East African immigration.

> Garrison Keillor, Al Franken, the Coen Brothers, Jessica Lange, Kevin Sorbo, F.Scott Fitzgerald, Sinclair Lewis, Judy Garland, Bob Dylan, Mary McCarthy, Gloria Steinem, the Andrews Sisters, John Sanford, and a host of others I haven't had time to recall.

38. Iowans are so by God stubborn
they can stand touchin' noses for a week at a time
and never see eye to eye.

They are not that decent either. It is a closed society because nobody has moved there since 1915. As one comic said "If you did not make friends with them in Junior High, it's too late." Not only that, but I was there for three years without being able to find a job with benefits. I am not sure if Iowa Owes the World an Apology, but I think those Inbred Oafs Without Affability owe me one, and I would like the $25,000 that I lost on Iowa real estate back too.

39. I am Iowan and Minnesotan
by upbringing and wanderings. Am in Iowa now. Iowans are OK to you if you derive at least part of your income from agriculture (renting a farm or actually farming). In our county the repugs are pretty much the Protestants and some extreme right-to-life Catholics. But the Democrats are pretty much the Catholics. This all goes back to the Civil War I think. Nothing ever changes except the repugs/Protestants finally got outnumbered and lost all the county courthouse jobs.
