Natalie Maines Wins VH1 Award For Anti-Bush Comment
http://launch.yahoo.com/read/news.asp?contentID=215672

Dixie Chick Natalie Maines won the award for the Big Quote Of 2003 at the VH1 Big In '03 award show, taped Thursday (November 20) in Los Angeles, for her controversial anti-Bush comment made while in concert overseas in March. The singer told a London audience, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas."

Upon accepting her award, Maines said, "There's an old Texas expression. If you don't have anything nice to say, go to London and say it in front of 2,000 people."

VH1 Big In '03 will air on November 30 at 9 p.m. ET.

A deliberate or inadvertant goof on Bush's "old expression" quotes? You decide:

"I was the guy that said they ought to vote. And one country voted -- at least showed their cards, I believe. It's an old Texas expression, show your cards, when you're playing poker. France showed their cards. After I said what I said, they said they were going to veto anything that held Saddam to account. So cards have been played. And we'll just have to take an assessment after tomorrow to determine what that card meant."

"There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, fool me once, shame on—shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again."

1. That "Fool me once" quote of *'s
When he said, "Fool me once, shame on—shame on you. Fool me twice—can't get fooled again."

Is that a real saying, or did he botch the "Fool me once -- shame on you. Fool me twice -- shame on me" saying?
