2. You know, I just saw it in its entirity for the first time
(well, a couple interruptions) and after all the hype about it being so funny, I really didn't think it was all that.

To quote TBS: "mildly funny" - don't laugh too much.

4. Why are you trying to eliminate Christmas? Do you work for the ACLU?
I think the narration is a hoot.

7. Yes and yes.
:P

I thought it was mildly funny, but not on par with Christmas Vacation or anything.

:D

15. Nothing is on par with Christmas Vacation.
Chevy Chase is hilarious in that movie.

5. I have no idea how old you may be
But for me, what was so funny was that I remember those days. I grew up in a similar time and place, with the 50's type family (Dad the breadwinner, Mom the housedress-wearing homemaker), the brick schoolhouse, the proper teacher, etc. I can recall the seeming simplicity of life then and the anticipation of Christmas.

Life is so different now. It's faster, bigger, more cynical. It was funny to me to see the inherent absurdity and yet the kind of comforting simplicity of that time portrayed on screen.

Or something.

17. Me, too
I can almost smell the classroom, the wet mittens and the rubber boots. The neighborhood was just like the one I lived in outside of Chicago.

I miss the snow. All we get here is rain.

I grew up in Vermont - now I live in Los Gatos, CA. I miss the snow, too.

6. It's not far from my house
I was thinking about driving by it, but I am lazy. Hell, I've never even been to the Rock Hall.

10. Thanks so much for this link! I saw this movie just last year.
Spent some time researching Peter Billingsley at that time, wondering what happened to him.

Appreciate your post, Allegro Rondo (wow, you must be a very musical person!).

In peace,
