I have given.
For this is the way I shall receive. Practice charity, fellows.

1. The world's religions
speak of charity as a good thing. Charity is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The beloved Prophet said that even those who were destitute could give-in a smile and a sincere thanks.

There is a Sufi story that shows the importance of charity:

A Sufi sheikh had a dream in which God came and said that one merchant in his city had made the perfect Pilgrimage that year, and so God had blessed all the pilgrims. Since doing the Hajj, or Pilgrimage, perfectly, is very difficult, the sheikh went to see the merchant the next day.

When asked about the Pilgrimage, the merchant said, "I didn't go on Pilgrimage this year. I had gone the year before, and I was planning to go again. But then I found out that my neighbor had had bad luck in his business and was destitute. So I took the money I had saved for Hajj and gave it to him."

That was the Perfect Pilgrimage.
