and gotta love the theremin.
But I really do love these old horror/sciencefiction movies - the special effects were cheezy, yes, but they were honest; but mostly, what I love is the story telling: the story was still more important than the effects in these old movies, and they moved slower, more deliberately, and, I have to say, in most cases, more artistically than a lot of modern movies.
And not just the horror and the b-movies, but the classics, too - Bogart, Cary Grant, bette Davis, etc.: always the story first, and they were good stories, and they unfolded slowly, like a proper story, like a stage play.
And that's not to say that new movies are crap - we're producing a lot of damned good modern movies as well, but I miss the pacing and the deliberateness and the lack of bells and whistles of the old classics.
