been thinking of you daily. For the better part of the past month, the local (college town) paper has been running a series on Waveland, Miss and neighboring areas. Started with a group of IU students going down to do volunteer work - and sending back daily items ... has continued with a steady stream of folks from here coming down there and continuing stories. For the first time in a long time I am very proud of the local paper (it can get pretty superficial at times - but at least it isn't overly conservative.) Seems that folks in this little college town are working to a) keep up the awareness of those still facing life-threatening and life-altering tragedies (the focus of most stories - rather than simple "feel good" homilies), and b) as a result continue to try to find ways to be of assistance to fellow citizens in this long duration of need.

Each day I read an item, I think of you. I think of what you have and continue to endure. I think of those who have been hit even harder by tragedy (still in tents - if even that) who are still being left behind... daily. And I pray that as a society, if we work hard to continue to realize and attempt to address the human face and needs confronting us from this tragedy... that perhaps as a society we will reclaim our humaneness; it is the only silver lining that I can hope for.

My heart goes out to you, and wishes a much improved 2006. :loveya:

and despite all I lost, I know that I am blessed because I am in a better place than many.

I will try to continue to shout about things here from the DU roof tops so that folks do not forget the hurricane survivors.

I appreciate (and this is not ass kissing, but sincerity) the good thoughts and the well wishes you send my way, our way. I join you in the prayer that our society reclaims our humaneness.

Those folks who cannot join us in this prayer or hope fail to realize, if this can happen to us along the Gulf Coast, it can happen to them. Oceans do not seperate us from our fellow citizens. We share the same nation, the same country.

With the good wishes and prayers and support of people like you, salin, how can 2006 not be improved.
