Poll question: Did you have your black-eyed peas today? New Year's Foods Poll
My first DU Poll. I just got back from breakfast with a side of black-eyed peas for good luck. What are your New Year's Day food traditions/superstitions? (With a tip of the party hat to yvr girl, author of my all-time favorite DU poll )

2. Haven't had them yet,
but I'm cooking up a pot of black-eyes peas and collard greens in a little bit. We're going to have them with our leftover king crab from last night. Mmmmm...

5. I have never had a black-eyed pea in my life.
In fact, I was well into adulthood before I'd ever even HEARD of the New Year's Day "traditional" foods. Just wasn't traditional in my family or even among anyone I knew.

6. Nothing too traditional about my diet, today.
I ate a panini, 1/2 a cup of cottage cheese, half a cup of coffee with french vanilla creamer (someone spilled the other half for me,) a fruit cup, and I haven't had dinner yet because I'm not hungry. My husband likes to have hot wings on New Year's, but I don't like them.

13. I'm guessing it's a southern thing.
I like them now, but even when we were little, my mother made sure we all had a couple bites on January 1.

Happy New Year, big will!

11. I ate a whole pumpkin pie
I think that's supposed to bring me more assfat in the new year or something. Actually it has a shitload of tofu in it, so I'm trying to convinve myself it's reasonably healthy.

Let's just hope it stops raining for a few days, so I can follow through on my resolution to ride my bike more. :D

16. Bwahhaahahah!
I think you've stumbled on a universal superstition! I hope the weather clears up for bike riding. I better swim a little more often than I did in December or my new name will be gravyboy.

15. I never do...
My mom used to shove them down my throat as a child...I will never eat another one. I think most superstitions are bullshit.

19. I'm Irish so we are supposed to eat corn beef and cabbage
and maybe some soda bread.

But we don't cook beef in the house, so, oh well. It's pizza, instead.

24. I had my black eyed peas and my greens
so I've covered. I also opened the front door at midnight (to let the new year in) and opened the back door to let the old year out.

My friends Dad walks around the house with an empty suitcase at midnight on NYE because he says that means you will travel in the new year. He's an interesting character :)

I neglected to go outside and beat on pots and pans but it was only because my neighbors all around were shooting off fireworks and I was skeered something would put my eye out!
