Checking in from the Napa Valley
Finally got eletricity after about 36 hours. No flood damage at my place--I'm on the hill, which got 8+ inches of rain that drained ito the valley and helped create the valley flooding, but I've been without electricty for 36 hours. Which means not DSL, no DU... and at my place, no heat. Gimme heat any time, much as a I love DU.

Off to some hot soup with my neighbors/landlords. More later.

8. I'm fortunate to be on the hill
Downtown Napa was inundated. I have gone through the 89 and 98 floods in the valley and this seems worse for downtown Napa. We've been working on the flood control project since 98 and there has been a lot of progress, but this came so hard and fast not much helped. Still we are better than Guernville and the Russian River area. We have a fairly small drainage basin and if it stops rainign for a couple of hours, everything drains off. The Russian River drains from all the way up to Humbolt County--takes days to drain all the runoff. Very nasty over there.

you're okay - and I hope warm by now. The rain hasn't stopped here all day, though it's slowed down.

10. Where is "here"?
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 12:18 AM by NV Whino
It rained most of the day here, but is now stopped. I guess SoCal is in for it now. We, in NoCa, have a break for a few days.

14. would've answered sooner...
but I lost internet. Not power, not cable -just internet. I could strangle Charter. Their line was busy all day yesterday into this morning. Cost-cutting, bottom-lining,-and ignoring the consumer - etc. is the ruination of this country, imho.

Anyway - "here" is the Central Coast. Morro Bay. The wind blew in 50mph gusts most of yesterday. Rain
was blowing under the window sills & running down the wall. Today's quite lovely. Go figure.

Anybody heard from Pachamama or the others? I saw several shots of Monte Rio(?) -didn't looktoo good. Hope everyone's okay.

18. Aha, you're the one in Morro Bay
I'm down there usually once a year to visit a friend in Los Osos. I'll give you a shout the next time I'm heading in that direction. By the way, she hasn't mentioned any problems with Charter, although she kept getting bumped off at Thanksgiving. Upgrading firmware in Airport seems to have fixed that, though.

And... it's raining here again on Tuesday. Didn't think it was supposed to rain again for a few days.

Please do give me a head's up when you come down. Then we can start our own "I met another DUer" thread...(:)

I finally got Charter @ 5:30 am today and took care of the modem. Still need to do the router - until then my only Net is here at work. Gotta run. See ya later! Stay dry.

12. Thanks!
This was not pleasant, but every time I complained, I remembered New Orleans and then stopped complaining. there is flood damage in Napa, but we, up valley folks, were merely inconvenienced for a few hours. Good to be back online, however.

13. I'm ok. However I didn't want to risk going to one of my clients in
Tiburon since it was very windy with intermitant hard rain. Anyways, I heard there were a couple of landslides in Mill Valley(?). The power never went out though so I can't complain too much. I hope you're ok though!!

7. Frogs are hibernating
I did have telephone service although my neighbors still do not. However, it's a land line with no answering machine (during poer outages) so you probably would not have gotten me since I deserted ship last night in favor of a warm house/bed and this morning shower at my friend, Helene's. PG&E reported that there were 77 miles of line down in our area. Amazing! And they did an amazing job getting us back up and running in 36 hours. I bitch and moan about electric bills and being without electricity, but I gotta tell ya, these guys are heros.
