Ebert and Roeper's Top Ten Movies of 2006 |
|
I haven't been able to see many movies this year. The only one of these I've seen is Crash (which other lists have as one of the worst, oddly).
Roeper
10. The 40 Year Old Virgin 9. Walk the Line 8. History of Violence 7. Brokeback Mountain 6. Capote 5. Nine Lives 4. Munich 3. Crash 2. The New World 1. Syriana
Ebert
10. Millions 9. Yes 8. King Kong 7. Nine Lives 6. Me and You and Everyone we Know 5. Brokeback Moutain 4. Junebug 3. Munich 2. Syriana 1. Crash

4. Peggy, do you have the same anti-theater bias I do? |
|
The last time I saw a movie in a theater was Fahrenheit 9/11. I avoid theaters mainly because of financial reasons and the chance you take being surrounded by obnoxious people.

5. My dear Starbucks Anarchist! |
|
We avoid going to the movies because, mostly, the noise levels are obnoxious!
Also, the commercials, the sticky floors, the crowds and like that.......
I did go recently to see the newest Harry Potter....and it was fine! But these days, we buy the DVD's when they come out...

6. I'm a Netflix guy myself. |
|
Most of the movies I'm interested in came out a long time ago, so I don't really have an urge to go to the theater. Also, the fact that it costs me an hour's salary minimum per ticket here, not to mention parking, etc., pretty much keeps me away.
I really do want to see Good Night, and Good Luck and Syriana, but the DVDs will be released by March or April, so I guess I'll wait. :hi:

7. Brokeback and King Kong should be seen in the theater, for cinematography |
|
and special effects to be experienced best...
You won't regret seeing 40 yr. old virgin... Relentlessly funny but not mean spirited like many comedies.

For me, Brokeback Mtn. is the best film of the year...
I'd also have 40 yr. old virgin in my top 10. I was disappointed in "Crash" and probably would not have it in my top 10. I really like Cronenberg but was SEVERELY disappointed in "History of Violence" and it wouldn't be anywhere near a top 10 list for me... Probably WOULD have "Good Night and Good Luck".

9. I can't remember whether they called it "2005 movies" or "2006 list" |
|
but probably. The movies, of course, are 2005, but the list was on their first show of 2006.

But I do want to see Brokeback Mountain and Syriana. I'll wait for Syriana to come out on DVD but I might actually see Brokeback Mountain in a theater.

11. I hate Ebert and Roper! |
|
The fat fucker and his crony. They are almost like a freakin' rubber stamp. Roper is to close to Ebert in what he thinks is a good movie. I miss Siskel, he was a much better partner with Ebert. When Siskel and Ebert gave 2 thumbs up(which was rare) you knew it would be a good movie. Now Ebert and Roper just go along with each other way to much. I guess Ebert did not want another partner who was so diametrically different than him like Siskel was.

13. I loved it when Gene Siskel named Babe: Pig in the City #1 |
|
He chose it as the #1 film one year saying it epitomized the joy of making movies. I thought that was so totally cool!

I don't always agree with him, of course, but I think he has pretty good judgment, and I like that he values a wide variety of movies and bases his ratings on what the movie intended to be. I also like his political views!

It's okay not to like Roger Ebert, even if he is a good liberal. I don't like Tom Cruise!

21. I got nothing against him. |
|
As far as "fat fucker" goes, lets just say i am not very pc. Also where i am from, just because you call someone a derogatory name does not mean you dislike them, it's rather common in fact. Example would be, i walk into the poker room at a buddies. I will greeted by friends with such gems as, "Hey theres that worthless piece of shit", or man that melon of your is extra shiny today, did you wax that big head or something". Our view here is as long as it's said with a smile on your face and yer' pokin' a little fun, just breaking a little balls it's alright.
I agree with On Tom though. What a pontificating nut case! A real whack job for sure.

14. How was Walk the Line? |
|
I may go see that this afternoon. A friend gave me a movie pass for Christmas and although I had two weeks off, I didn't use it. Tells you how enthused I am about the movies. But I loved Johnny Cash and have heard the movie is good.

they made a point of saying that if their top ten hadn't been made, they would still be very happy with #11 - 20 as the best movies of the year.

I have no idea how accurate it was, but it was a great show. Juaqin Phoenix really does a great job with it, similar to Jamie Foxx did with Ray last year. There are times where you could swear its Cash on screen.
