So the teenagers decide to pay someone $20 each for a bottle of
Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum, so they can get 'fucking wasted', and maybe 'sleep in the woods' if they have to.

Not mine. She has decided not to go that route right now, but the parents found out in time so no one drank an entire bottle of rum and passed out in the woods in 32 degree weather.

Last night, I offered each one of them money to go drink free for a year. They swore they would. We'll see.

This is a scary time. Teenagers are a real handful.

3. I know.
I know how ridiculous that sounds, but right hand to God as a practicing Catholic, she isn't. I think it is because her best friend's dad died as a result of a drunk driver. So, there are a few who aren't.

But, given the tragedy we all endured, I really had thought more of them would opt out...at least for a while.

Can you imagine though, 100 pound girls each drinking an entire bottle of rum? It gives me the shakes just thinking about it.

Girls. Still amateurs? I honestly don't think they would have all survived, especially if they planned to 'sleep in the woods'. What morans.

7. Thank You!
I mean, seriously, Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum? A major puke a thon would ensure, and what were they thinking talking about sleeping in the woods.

Fortunately, one of the kids left her IM windows open and mom saw it. I don't think that woman will ever be the same. You know your kids are going to test you, but dear God.

15. they probably would have been gagging long before they
got halfway, Midlo. And would have run home when it got too cold.

From one teen whose buddies used to drink apricot brandy (yikes) in the 70s... mostly it was a lot of talk... if that's any consolation. The drama was probably part of the excitement...

Glad your teen is sensible. We talked a lot about drinking too much when we were that age, but seldom did. Good vibes to you from one whose kid is hopefully still a few years away from this dilemna.

10. 20 bucks for a bottle of Capt. Morgan?
Wow, somebody was going to make some money off those poor dumb kids. I'm glad they got busted - not a good idea at all.

11. Oh, yeah. the going rate here is $15 per bottle,
so the procurer was definitely making money. I am glad that they got busted also. One of them got drunk last week on 151 rum. Dear God, I think I was 30 before I tried that stuff.

No beer. No wine. No wine coolers. Straight to the liquor.

14. Honestly, Bertha. The only thing I told her
was that drinking was not allowed at her age. I did talk to her about the dangers of alcohol, blah, blah, blah, but I think my telling it she wasn't allowed to do it is what convinced her.

She told me at parties when she is offered some, what goes through her head is 'my mom will kill me'. Which I probably wouldn't, and I do know it is inevitable, but I wish they would wait a little longer.

16. My sisters' kids must just be complete and total geeks.
They have never fallen in with the drinking crowd. The only one I can see drinking is Tory, who's nearly 15. I wish he lived with us. Not because his mom's not great - she's awesome. She broke a boatload of horrible patterns, the legacy of our mother. But I wish he could live out here with me to learn that there is more in life. There are other places, other cultures, other ways of life, other weather.... For 37 1/2 years, I said, "I will NEVER leave Southern California." I think part of that was fear of the unknown. I don't want him to have that apprehension.

Sheesh... where did that come from?

"My mom will kill me" is as good a deterrent as any at this stage. Of course you wouldn't, but she does not want to disappoint you. You sound like a good mom, too.

13. My Dad payed me and my sisters $3,000 to not smoke or drink
Until 21, which was tricky considering 19 is the legal drinking age here.
Long story short, I never got caught and became very good at sneaking around. If I ever can, I intend to give him the money back with a full confession
